It says in the article I linked to in the original post:
"Hall will appear as Hedwig in the following performances: San Francisco, Sunday, October 9 at 7:00 pm, Wednesday, October 12 at 8:00 pm, Wednesday, October 19 at 8:00 pm, and Wednesday, October 26 at 8:00 pm. Los Angeles, Sunday, November 6 at 6:30 pm, Sunday, November 13 at 6:30 pm, Sunday, November 20 at 6:30 pm, and Friday, November 25 at 8:00 pm."
I already have season tickets to the Pantages and and seeing Darren on 11/5. As soon as single tickets go on sale, you can bet I'll be seeing Lena as Hedwig!!!
Hall and Criss will each have an understudy traveling on tour. This, however, is pure fun and satisfies the curiosity many had about whether Hall could/would perform as Hedwig.
Truthfully, I'm not a huge fan of the idea of a woman playing Hedwig (seeing Ally Sheedy will do that to ya), but I'm excited to see what Lena can will do with it.
Just bought tickets for same day matinee and evening. Don't think I would have done this if Lena wasn't announced. My god - what an opportunity! A Hedwig weekend in SF - woot woot!!

Any chance this is a test to see if she'd play Hedwig for the rest of the tour?

Seems unlikely to me. I really think they need a name of some sort to sell this show on tour, and Hall isn't one. (Also, does anyone else think it's somewhat disingenuous for the headline of the release to announce that Hall is joining the tour when she's, in fact, joining it for a grand total of two dates?)
I wonder if they'll have any of the understudies go on at all? That's the only way I'd see this. I wasn't a fan of Hall in NY. Never saw Criss, didn't want to.
I was so looking forward to finally seeing the show, but when Darren was announced, I lost all interest, but now that Lena is joining, I will just have to see it! Definetly as Hedwig and maybe I could bear watching Criss if I got to see her Yitzhak.
