I see that Andrew Lloyd Webber has bought the rights to turn the film School Of Rock into a stage musical. Seems Lloyd Webber and Glen Slater have written a few new songs for this and are going to use a few songs from the film as well. The story has been rewritten by Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes. It opens in December on Broadway. And it stars Alex Brightman in the lead role. Any ideas if it will be staged in the UK next year or the year after next?
Andrew Lloyed Webber has not had a big hit stage musical for a long time. But I have seen a few clips on YouTube and it just might be a big hit for him. I am not really a fan of any of Andrew Lloyd Webbers musicals. Apart from cats which I really enjoyed. I am a fan of rock musicals so will probably go and see this if and when it comes to the UK.
It'll more difficult to cast the children because they'd need to triple cast it. I reckon if it's successful, it'll transfer late next year or early 2017 and theatre wise, I'm guessing the Palladium would be ALW's first choice but it could end up anywhere with big capacity.
I saw the first preview on Broadway and really enjoyed it. Never saw the movie so knew nothing about it beforehand (n fact, had never even heard of the movie lol). Thought the Book was brilliantly witty. The songs didn't blow me away but worked well in the show. The adult cast were superb - especially Sierra Bogess and all of the kids were seriously amazing.
