Anybody seen the new one woman show with Daphne Rubin Vega? Big fan of hers but don't know since it's a one person show. Anybody seen this yet? Thoughts?

I can totally understand why a big fan of hers would avoid seeing her in a one-person show.

Can't remember the last time I've been so captivated by a play/performer... Truly a powerhouse of a play. Terrifying and hilarious and thrilling. Great work by Aaron Mark & DRV. Don't want to give away any spoilers but will just say the set and prop design is pretty effing genius...highly recommend this one! Can't wait to hear what other people think about it.

Agree 100% with jansalrose. It was totally captivating and fascinating. The part was written for her, so it's perfect. She acted the sh*t out of it.

I saw the show and while I don't have the effusive praise of other posters, I found it to be rather enjoyable. The play itself is captivating even though I found it to be a little long. The beginning is just story after story about how this woman's life sucks. By the time you get to the end there is a lot of action and revelations which get more you interested in what's happening. I did like the inspiration of SWEENEY TODD and how it didn't stick too closely to the original story.

DRV is doing some great work on stage although I feel like she was a little under the weather and sniffly. This might have slightly affected her performance last night. I'm not really sure what jansalrose is referring to in saying that talking about the set design will be spoilery. It's basically just a subterranean tunnel with a massage table and trash can. A lot of the play is her sitting on top of the table and it gets a little boring to watch. The only real stagecraft happens at the end which I thought was cool. The lighting works well for the play but it was also kind of stagnant. I was hoping for a lot more when the designer's previous work was PRELUDES.

I would definitely recommend seeing this, especially if you're a big DRV fan. My only hope is that they cut about 10-15 mins because it is slightly long.

" I feel like she was a little under the weather and sniffly."

Um...isn't that how she always sounds?

I understand what she usually sounds like. I meant the fact that she was actively sniffing and seemed a little low energy at times.

While she didn't miss a beat at Tuesday's perormance and no sniffles, during the talkback she was coughing quite a bit and seemed congested in the throat. Feared she'd be coming down with something, sounds like it's getting worse.

I saw this last night and thrilled by it. Very chilling, funny, and delicious. Don't miss this, I think they'll be talking about this one for years.
