Does anyone have recommendations for off Broadway shows that are not dark on Mondays? I'm headed to NY for Labor Day weekend and am trying to maximize my time. I have never seen much off Broadway and I'd like to expand but there seem to be so many shows out there it's hard to know where to look let alone find out what may have Monday shows.

If I can't find anything I may go see Phantom, which I haven't seen in ages and might be fun to see again, but my parents and I were thinking of doing a bit of a throw back weekend and going to see phantom and les mis so Id like to hold off on that. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I have a pretty wide range of tastes and my other shows (in two days) are Something Rotten!, Hedwig, Sleep No More (already expanding my horizons a bit there!), on the town, and Hamilton. 6 shows in 3 days would be a new record for me!

A couple of suggestions.  39 STEPS is a fun show where 4 actors play dozens of roles recreating an Alfred Hitchcock movie.  It has a show Monday evening on Labor Day. Another show is an old school classic The FANTASTICKS.  It's a fun love story set in olden times.  The theater is not state of the art and scenery and props is kept to a minimum but it's a great story and Ed Watts, the actor playing the lead character El Gallo, is really talented. It also has a performance Monday night.  Discounts are widely available for both so check around (Goldstar, Groupon, TKTS, rush, special student discounts etc.) If you want to take a break from non-stop theater and enjoy comedy, take in a comedy club.  The best in the city, The Comedy Cellar in Greenwich Village has 3 shows that Monday night and only a $12 cover charge. Hope this helps.

Thanks!  Those are great suggestions. 39 steps and the fantastiks both sound like perfect options. I definitely should check out a comedy club one of these days but maybe not when I'm flying solo. :)

One other possibly interesting option for Labor Day weekend is the Public Works production of "The Odyssey" in Central Park (it runs Sept 4-7).

I saw that since I looked up the public as it's the only off Broadway theater I've ever been to. I looked it up and it looks like you basically need to wait in line for tickets at the park at noon. Not sure I'll have time for that but I'll keep it in mind depending depending on how things are looking when the weekend gets closer.
