I'm coming back for the Tonys next year, and I'd like to go ahead and start making some plans. I have space for 7 shows, plus the Tonys. These are the shows I'm considering:

School of Rock

Allegiance

Hamilton

She Loves Me (Will this still be open in June?)

Fiddler on the Roof

Matilda

Fun Home (Will Judy and Sydney to still be there?)

The King and I (Will Kelli still be there?)

The Color Purple

Finding Neverland (What will this cast look like in June?)

Sylvia (Still open in June?)

On Your Feet

Somethig Rotten (Will the leads still be there?)

Aladdin

ANY input you guys have on which shows are great, or which ones I should avoid...really, any opinions at all would be awesome. I have to cut this list of shows in half...and I'm terrible at decisions!

Thanks!!

While not impossible, most leads of the shows you ask about will be gone with the exception of Hamilton. Heck, it looks like Sydney could be gone by Oct.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I believe Sylvia is a limited run, closing in January.

Otherwise, there is no way to know this early which actors will still be with their shows next summer.

As of now, She Loves Me closes on May 22nd.

DEFINITELY keep Fun Home and Hamilton.  I don't know where you're from, but if you aren't able to get to New York very often to see shows, those are the top two (in my opinion) you won't want to miss. As Dramamama said, Sydney could be gone by October but people are saying the rest of the cast may want to stay with it a while because its such a unique piece of theatre. Obviously, there are not guarentees with that, but it is what some have been saying. The Hamilton cast will probably all still be there, but thats also not certain.

I don't know if you could totally go wrong with any of your other choices, and I haven't seen all the shows you listed that are currently out, so do with that what you will, but I would go with The Color Purple, Allegiance, The King and I,  Something Rotten, and Fiddlers on the Roof for your other 5. Just from what I've seen/heard from family and friends, along with what people i know are most looking forward to for the upcoming season, that seems like a good, well rounded list, especially since many, if not all, of those shows wont be on any kind of tour before your trip.

Thanks for all the input so far! I'm 100% on Fun Home and Hamilton. I'm kinda bummed that She Loves Me is closing before I go. That cast is incredible.

I'm leaning towards Allegeiance, The Color Purple, The King and I, and Fiddler as definites also.

Whats the buzz on School of Rock? It seems like it could be fun.

Something Rotten would be great, but I'm not sure if I'd see it in NYC without the original cast since a tour is in the works.

What are the chances of The Wiz being open by June?

THE WIZ is a TV special. It's not coming to Broadway...

Oops...I thought I read somewhere that it was going to come to Broadway next year.

Are there any shows opening in the spring that I've looked over or that I should consider?

THE WIZ is coming to Broadway (or at least they are planning to). We just don't know when yet.

There's also a very good chance shows that have not yet formally announced a Broadway run will be opening the spring- something like Waitress, or Dear Evan Hansen.

With the shows opening in the fall...will those casts be around in June?

This is what our group is leaning towards now:

A Long Day's Journey Into Night (I love Jessica Lange, but know nothing about the play...is it interesting?)

School of Rock

Shuffle Along

Fun Home

Is this a good mix of shows? Close seconds were Aladdin, Allgiance, and Fiddler. Also wanted to see She Loves Me, but it closes right before we arrive, and Hamilton, but I can't bring myself to pay more than $100 for that, and all that's left is $187.

I would seriously advise you to consider eliminating a spot for a show in order to see Hamilton. I cannot stress how much you should put that show on your list.

I would love to see Hamilton, and would eliminate School of Rock for it...but many in my group just cannot afford tickets that are that pricey.

Unless it is a major star who they have already announced a limited run for, yes, it is unlikely that you would see many changes in the casts for shows that open this season by June.

"(I love Jessica Lange, but know nothing about the play...is it interesting?)"

It's one of the classics of the American dramatic canon. So, yes.

not as good as the crucible. If you want to see a play, see crucible. School of Rock and She Loves me will most likely be open in June still. It will extend

There are tickets under $100 for Hamilton.

But otherwise, if you raise your limit on this one show by $50, in terms of your total budget you're talking pennies.

See This Show.

Thanks everyone for your help!

My biggest concern now is Fun Home...if if is likely that the original cast will still be around I'll stick with that, if not, then I may cave and splurge on Hamilton.

Although I wouldn't put it past Judy Kuhn and Michael Cerveris to extend their contracts (I know I would if I were either of them), I would splurge on Hamilton either way (although I already saw Fun Home, so the issue would be less pressing for me).

I'd like to start planning ASAP, but would like to wait until I know a definite date for The Tonys so that I don't have to deal with exchanges on so many tickets. When is that date released?
