"HOW DO YOU DO, I LOVE YOU was a modern "rock" musical written by Richard Maltby Jr. and David Shire, with a book by Michael Stewart.
Described by the authors as the first musical written entirely in the Rock'n'Roll genre this ill-fated musical about the hip world of computer dating played the Shady Grove and Westbury Music Fairs in October and November of 1967 before closing on the road. Though the show was never officially recorded and has't been performed since some of its songs were recycled in Maltby & Shire's famous trunk song revues.
The show's orchestrations were by legend Jonathan Tunick in one of his earliest ventures, and also in the cast were Carole Cook and Loni Ackerman."
I saw Loni Ackerman perform her cabaret act a few years ago and she sang some stuff from How Do You Do, I Love You. I liked her selections and stories, plus her voice is still in tip top shape.
Both this and Love Match deserve to been seen again at MUFTI, especially since Maltby and Shire have a good relationship with The York.
Marie: Don't be in such a hurry about that pretty little chippy in Frisco.
Tony: Eh, she's a no chip!
