That Sweden-Nigeria match was fantastic! Best match of the tournament so far.

I really want to get into this, I really do, but considering how FIFA is not only screwed up in ways we all know, On top of that, they are showing real acts of gender inequality by making the woman play on turf for the first time which has never been done before, and insisting that they wear shorter and tighter shorts because as Blatter put it, "women are pretty."
I know what your mean Islander. I love soccer but it's hard for me to support anything FIFA related. But Blatter is out which is a step in the right direction. And it looks like FIFA is going to start being held accountable for it's past crimes. Ultimately I want to support women's soccer so I'm at least going to watch the US women's matches.
Also...I thought Blatter's short shorts suggestion was ultimately rejected?
Regardless of the shorts or not, I'm still livid over the fact that they are mistreating the women's players. Like I said earlier, this is the first FIFA event that's taking place on artificial turf rather than the traditional playing surface of grass. It's never been done before, it is physically hurting the players legs with rug burns and scrapes and is not something that would even be considered if it were a men's world cup. So much for gender equality in sports.
"Islanderfan, first off I totally respect your name. Second, I did not know this, how many are on turf? This should not be played on turf. Total BS."
This is the first FIFA event where the entire tournament is being played on turf. There have been interviews with women on the US team who, of course, are pissed about this. And, may have said (and I agree) that this would never occur if this were the mens world cup. Despite the fact that, at least here in the US, women's sports is far from being as popular as its male counterpart, the games may be slightly modified (like the ball in the WNBA being a little smaller since women have smaller hands than mens) but all in all they are pretty equal between the two. The whole business of the entire world cup being played on turf is irksome. Specially since there was an interview/story about this on CBS awhile back where Team USA players all felt that this would never happen on the mens side.
Right now, I am happy that I now have a soccer team to call my own. Major league Soccer's New York City Football Club. And, for my forgin fix, I'll stick to the UEFA cup.

Well they are making the men play practically on the face of the sun in 2022, in conditions not safe for players and fans alike. Of course that's a whole other kettle of fish.

Well, considering what's been going on with FIFA, it's still very much up in the air as to whether or not the 2020 Qatar is going to be a thing. Yes, there will be a world cup that year, but with all the corruption and forced change to FIFA and seeing that thats a bit of a ways away, for all we know they could change the location.
The uproar of having the 2022 Men's World Cup in Qatar is crazy. Hoping with Blatter stepping down and the scandals going on that they give the 2022 WC to either England or USA.
BTW, the next Women's World Cup will be held in France(2019) with Japan the frontrunner to host the 2023 WWC.

I hate the US Women's team's style of play. No finesse, no sophistication, just kick and chase. Relying on physical prowess to wear down opponents. No real play maker. We should be playing better soccer.
