And perhaps a younger mother is really what's called for with this show. I'm terribly excited. I was in LA doing a gig when this ran off-Broadway in '98...so I've never seen it on stage. I'm so excited to be remedying that in June!
Ya know...for a show I love so much due to the cast recording, it's weird I've never sought out the script. I mean...there's like three songs from this show in my audition book. I'm a terrible actor.
I played the Minister in a very successful regional production (William Finn's old babysitter played the mother in our production!) and I love everything about this show. It's such a tight score, I don't think there is a single second that is wasted in the entire show.

This is indeed a great cast. As others have said, Ana Gasteyer in real life could have been a very young mother to Jonathan Groff (who for some reason I always forget is only five years younger than myself), and for the purposes of these handful of performances I certainly wouldn't be bothered by worrying about how old she would have been when she had him.
Hoping I'll be able to fit it in around the rehearsal schedule for the show I'll be working on at the time.
Why doesn't Encores! record their shows more often?!? This is another concert I would love to have in my collection, along with several other Encores: Anyone Can Whistle, Bells Are Ringing, The Most Happy Fellas, Fiorello and Victor Garber, Victoria Clark, Michael McGrath and Donna Murphy in Follies.
"Contentment, it seems, simply happens. It appears accompanied by no bravos and no tears."

Because cast recordings cost money, and if someone isn't stepping forward and writing a check, a recording isn't going to be made.
This announcement has me even more excited. Can't wait.
And, for what it's worth, the OCR is what hooked me on this show. I certainly won't be angry if they choose to record this cast (like, I really won't be angry), but I think the original recording is pretty solid and worth checking out.
