I am coming to NYC next week and would like to take the opportunity to tour some Off-Broadway venues to scout out possibilities for potentially producing something in the future. Although I am very familiar with the Broadway scene, I have not been to many off-Broadway shows. Can anyone suggest to me some off-Broadway venues that independent producers use? Ideally, I am looking for spaces with some personality (perhaps old, re-purposed spaces, not necessarily new).

NWS isn't exactly known for its personality. The theaters are pretty sterile.

The Davenport Theater on 45th between 8th & 9th is becoming a popular spot for renting

Davenport is off-off Broadway. Were you looking for a legitimate off-B theatre, or just something not on Broadway? A few others that come to mind would be the Players, the union Square (large), Cherry Lane, St Clements, and there is also the possibility of some non-profits in between their own shows depending on your timing.

Yes, most non-profits rent between shows. Playwrights Horizons is great about renting both of their theaters, as is Signature! Both are on 42nd which is a great location!!

I believe Davenport is off-Broadway. I was just in there for an event and it seated 120 people.
