Yeah, it was super-cheeseball with the laugh track and stuff, but still this was the ultimate early 80's sitcom. And the last time SJP was relevant.
Wonderful article on the one-season wonder of CBS' Square Pegs

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

Name me another sitcom that was cool enough to have a Waitresses theme song!

I once had a nice email exchange talking about with Tracey Nelson and Merrit Butrick
And the impact of AIDS on a generation. She was great.

Meritt was adorable, but my favorite was Amy Linker.

I remember it being quite smart. And I wasn't THAT young in the 1980s.

I read that article the other day. I watched the DVD box set a few years back, and it's hardly surprising to read that things like rampant drug use on set (this was TV in the 80s afterall...) and other things played a big part in its downfall, though I can't see it having had much of a life even without that. As mentioned, that 2 parter episode is particularly awful--and yet much of the series still holds up.

And yes, Meritt was adorable.

Fun fact: Aidan Quinn was also in the running for Johnny Slash.

Aidan Quinn later played a gay man with AIDS in An Early Frost.

I watched it strictly for Nelson and Butrick. Enjoyed seeing him as Kirk's son in the Star Trek movies. He looked adorable in that onesie.

I remember liking the show all those years ago -- it was back when Sarah Jessica Parker looked and acted like an actual human being, pre-Carrie Bradshaw.
