Can't see her as Elphaba. She'd make a good Galinda, though.

If they make it soon they could get Idina Menzel to reprise her role. She's a hot movie property now thanks to Frozen.

But what about her age? Is she young enough?

Good question, Bob. We should ask someone who has at least 3 dozen screen names here. But who could that be?

I don't know but this is a great and meaningful thread.

What about Hall of Fame Quarterback Steve Young? Is he Young enough? How about former UN Ambassador and Mayor of Atlanta, Andrew Young. He's 82 so by that age he must certainly be Young enough. Wow, really got me thinking.

If the film version of Rent taught us anything, it's that it's never a good idea to cast the original actors nearly a decade later.

I can't picture her as Elphaba for some reason.

If Amy Adams is too old - and she may well be - then Idina Menzel is certainly too old.

What about gender-blind casting???

Would anyone make a better Glinda than Liam Neeson? How cool would it be at a crucial point in the story, to have Glinda look at Elphaba and say "I'm off to see the Wizard and if you try to stop me... I will find you... and I will kill you."

It helps to read the entire article.

She goes on to say that there's no way she could ever play the role 8 times a week onstage and thinks she'd maybe like to do it for a one night benefit or something where her age wouldn't be an issue.

Without taking this too seriously ... she doesn't have near the vocal chops to play Elphaba. Come on. And yeah, girl's too old!

"It helps to read the entire article."

A good rule of thumb is to never let that get in the way of starting a pointless thread.

If Menzel is such a "hot property," why is If/Then doing so badly?

^Again, let's not worry ourselves about those pesky facts.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Can't wait for the kid to go back to school! In the meantime, girl's too old, "No
More" is about dead and all that.

I love Amy, in fact, she is one of my favorite actresses.

But Elphaba? No. I am longing for the day that they cast great actors in musicalfilms that are great singers too. They exist you know.

Anyone who disagrees, go check Youtube and search for some random "No good deed"'s.
(Willemijn Verkaik, Rachel Tucker, etc). That is such a high level of craftmanship, that can never be done and work on film by someone who isn't an outstanding singer.

Film and theatre are much more alike than one would think. For example I find the filmed version of Billy Elliot much more filmic than the actual film version of les Miserables, which are basically 1 take theatrical performances on set, and therefore I see actors giving a performance trying to be theatrical and struggling with singing, instead of taking me on a journey.
