Really gutted by this news. I saw Sideshow when I was in New York last month and loved it. (Loved the original version too) The score is nothing short of stunning.
Sure, the show has flaws - as do most musicals - but I cannot understand why this cannot capture an audience. It's way superior to a number of shows that have been major hits. Really hope the rumours that it will be heading over here are ttrue.

I am visiting NYC in January and will be missing this by just a few days now. I REALLY hope it comes here! Wouldn't it be something if it was a success here after all the failings in NY? You never know.
So many good musicals closed prematurely last year. This year is repeating itself. This is closing,The Last Ship is sinking and Honeymoon in Vegas is in deep financial trouble a month before opening. I think people are starting to rebel against sky high prices. Non premium tickets for a musical are $145 .Straight plays are not far behind
I have soured on Broadway and no longer champion shows. It simply is not worth it. My 50 plus years of attending now slows to a trickle
Here in the states, some on the Broadway board like to play a game. After a show posts its closing notice or even before that they like to guess what goes in next. They do not even wait for a decent burial when they start pissing all over the body. Another reason why Broadway is not Broadway to me any more. I knew it would not be a hit but closing this early was a real shocker
The Box office will not even release the uber ridiculously priced premium seats to sell at regular high prices. They would rather have empty seats at a struggling show than reduce the price.
This closes and yet Mormon which my wife loathed with a passion rides merrily along.
In theatre circles it is said Mr. Roxy could make an appearance on 4 January for the Final Performance. Diamond his wife is mulling it over. One can not go without the other because they are attached ( By Marriage ).
I saw this over Christmas and thought it was wonderful. The 2 leads were outstanding. I thought i would miss the belting from the OBCR, but Erin Davie and Emily Padgett made it more personal and heartfelt, more intimate.
I never saw the original production, only knowing it from the recording, but the changes to lyrics and song placement were clever. It's a very human story and has alot of heart. Its such a shame that the subject matter seems to put people off.
Hopefully it comes to London and they can find a way to market it, to help people understand the beautiful story being told on stage.
