Oh, I'd love to see that same sort of media connection to American Christianity. I never will, but it'd be fun. At any rate, in the case of Islam, the media doesn't need to cover it (except the factless media like Fox News). Tea Partiers, "Libertarians", and whatever the crazy ignorant conservative conspiracy theorists wish to call themselves today have had it thoroughly covered since 9/11. I do find it humorous that people still think the only Muslims in the world are the violent extremists. Sort of like how the only Christians in the world are Nazis or KKK.

I like the part in Erik's link where the Muslims talk about how the venerate Jesus in their teachings and many people name their sons after him. Then they ask why Christians don't follow the teachings of Jesus.
Excellent question for the nut and the abscessory.
Liza, I didn't say they were. I said that the news media attempts to stop any connection between beheadings commited by groups like ISIS and the religion of Islam.
I suppose this would be semantics, TN, but I see it more as... they just do not cover or address it. Not "stop." They are willfully complicit either way, though, and I do agree with you. They are weary of offending the Muslims, I imagine.
Funny how, over so many centuries, so much violence has been done in the name of Christianity in general, and Catholicism in particular. However, no one classifies either as a religion of violence.

-- Thomas Jefferson
"Although many people today believe that that religious fanaticism "causes" terrorism, it isn't true. It may be true that religious fanaticism creates conditions that are favorable for terrorism. But we know that religious zealotry does not 'cause' terrorism because there are many religious fanatics who do not choose terrorism or any form of violence. So there must also be other conditions that in combination provoke some people to see terrorism as an effective way of creating change in their world."
We are a country of violence. We were built on the backs of slaves and we slaughtered millions of Native Americans. Do you hold yourself responsible for those actions, just as Christians and Catholics are supposed to hold themselves responsible for something their predecessors or ancestors did hundreds and thousands of years ago?
In 2014, I fail to find any large organized religious groups, identified as Catholics or Christians, running around America bombing our places of worship, robbing our banks, stoning our women, raping our babies, and beheading "infidels." Do you? I don't see Jews or Muslims doing that, either. I do, however, see radical Islamists doing it.
Are there Catholics currently bombing churches, kidnapping children, stoning women, beheading non-Catholics, and extorting innocent civilians? Where? Where are they?
You're comparing terrible, indefensible acts of violence by lone nut-jobs over the course of multiple decades to organized, militarized groups of religious fanatics committing thousands of murders and kidnappings every day just the span of a few months?! Holy f*cking Christ. I hope no one accepts that as a reasonable comparison.
