After seeing Jan Maxwell in The City Of Conversation, they should cancel all this year's nominees in all acting catagories and just hand deliver her every award.

Is there a reason you couldn't have created a thread praising Jan Maxwell's (fabulous) performance and instead had to make this one insulting all 5 nominees (who I'm guessing you haven't seen each of their performances to even compare them to the wonderful Ms. Maxwell) in a competitive category who are all giving (or gave) dynamic performances in a variety of different roles? Jan Maxwell isn't even eligible for a Tony, obviously, so this thread is pretty pointless.

But yes, she was very good.

The OP didn't insult a single person. Not one.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Pretty insulting to want to cancel the nominations of a lot of hardworking, talented ladies.

Sorry, I'm just tired of this idea that we can only praise great performances with the metric of denigrating others. Why not live in the positive?

He didnt say a bad thing about anyone. His statement was hyperbole to show amazing he felt one perfprmance was. That's it.

The Janis Joplin woman who isn't gonna win - did she need a Tony nom?
That's an insult.

Unless a comet hits Radio City, NPH is gonna win a Tony.
Insult to other actors?
No, it's just the way it is.

People have been comparing exceptional off bway performances to Tony eligible ones for decades.

Suggesting Jan's performance is better than anything else out there is actually more of an insult to writers on broadway than the actors.

Explain to me how a statement like "Jan Maxwell as phenomenal and her performance is one of my favorites of the season" is any less true to the point being made as opposed to making a reference to others not being worthy of accolades? Nothing wrong with choosing to focus on positive words over the negative ones.

Because the OP WANTED to go a step further. There still is NO malice anywhere.

You seem to be the only one that sees any negative implication at all.

LOL, I could care less about defending JM's honor. She doesn't need me. And I think I've said in other threads I fully expect Kelli O'Hara to take home the big prize.

W/e! I guess I just hate the way the opinion was presented. If I'm alone in that, that's cool.

Let's keep ignoring the fact that even if this were a relevant conversation, Jan is in a play while the other ladies mentioned above are in musicals...

It's insulting to the women of the Best Actress in a Play category for posters in this board to continue to assume that Tonys are only awarded for Musicals, and insulting to those of us on these boards who value the Plays as equal if not more valuable to the Broadway experience as the Musicals to behave thusly as well.

How'd I do? Want to make sure I'm Sticking with It.

Words don't deserve that kind of malarkey. They're innocent, neutral, precise, standing for this, describing that, meaning the other, so if you look after them you can build bridges across incomprehension and chaos. But when they get their corners knocked off, they're no good anymore…I don't think writers are sacred, but words are. They deserve respect. If you get the right ones in the right order, you can nudge the world a little.

There are only two people that have referenced musical nominees, most haven't said anything one way or another. So thanks for lambasting all of us.

I wasn't lambasting all of you. I was referring to the people who were specifically talking about the ladies in musicals (a.k.a. StickIt). Don't get your knickers in a twist.
