It may be April 18 but does anybody believe that a new recording is possible? I loved the show when I saw it on Broadway (didn't want to see it at MSG). I enjoy the current World Premiere Album that was released but I would absolutely love a new CD with all the changes that have been made to the show since, especially the song "You'll Shoot Your Eye Out."
Most people seeing it, especially tourists, would not even recognize a new cd from the old one. I do not see the producers going thru the expense of making a new one especially for a seasonal show.
The CD they sent out to the Tony voters included live bonus tracks of some of the new material including a recording of the new "You'll Shoot Your Eye Out."
With the huge regional and community theater potential for this show, you'd think they would make a recording of the "Official Licensed Version". The current CD has entirely different lyrics for "Ralphie to the Rescue" and it also has those annoying "Higbees" singers, which were cut for Broadway. The non-musical version is one of Dramatic Publishing's biggest money-makers, so it would be nice to have a new CD as a reference for future productions of the musical version, which will also probably become a huge money-maker for the licensing company.
It's a shame as it is such a wonderful score. I do know that Benj Pasek and Justin Paul do want to record another album as they have told me. Here's hoping for the future!
