Not at all a surprise. They originally were going to do PETER PAN back in 2004. It took years of convincing NBC to do a live TV musical. Carrie Underwood is what got them to approve it.
With PETER PAN, they will get a star for Captain Hook and we'll see what happens with Peter Pan.
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

I had a feeling they would be doing this. It's only be done twice. Once with Mary Martin and another time with Cathy Rigby. If 'Rogers & Hammerstein's Cinderella' could be done three times, then this could be done as well. I vote for Kristin Chenoweth to play Peter Pan and Laura Benanti as Mrs. Darling.
While I'm excited NBC is doing another live musical event, I'm a little disappointed it's Peter Pan. I get it, it's a known name, it's for kids and adults, of all ages, it's just that I feel like Peter Pan is one of those shows/movies that never gets old. For instance, they're always re-airing versions of the movie/story on ABC Family whether it's the original Disney movie, Hook or Peter Pan (Jeremy Sumpter version), Cathy Rigby was recently touring the country for like the bagillionth time with the show...idk, i just feel like they could have done something that wasn't so, current. A more classical musical or something. Just my opinion, though, I'm still excited to watch and to see who they cast!
Yeah, a little boring. I was really hoping they wouldn't do this. The thing is, you have readily available access to either Mary Martin or Cathy Rigby's shows. I will watch, but I'm not as excited so far as I became with The Sound of Music.

I am sticking with Ariana Grande as Wendy. She has almost 13 mil followers on twitter. Miley Cyrus possibly would have been a good choice for PP BEFORE she alienated so many people. Kellie Pickler isn't a bad suggestion.
Completely safe, traditional, middle-of-the-road and unsurprising pick. Just what they needed to do. Let's see how they cast, but they're on solid footing now.
Words don't deserve that kind of malarkey. They're innocent, neutral, precise, standing for this, describing that, meaning the other, so if you look after them you can build bridges across incomprehension and chaos. But when they get their corners knocked off, they're no good anymore…I don't think writers are sacred, but words are. They deserve respect. If you get the right ones in the right order, you can nudge the world a little.
Recent productions of the show have had the actress who played Mrs. Darling as played Wendy when she grew up. I wonder they will do that or have another actress do it like in the original Mary Martin version.
