We saw it last night and thoroughly recommend it even if you do not like baseball
It is playing at the Duke and hope they get to move it to Circle In The Square. It is a small space but they do wonders with it. It takes place In a Boston Hotel room after the Reggie Jackson/ Billy Martin incident . It than moves to the Berra's bedroom and a dream sequence of a dinner party in Berra house where Elston Howard comes to dinner and the ghosts of Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle & Di Maggio attend . It ends in the Yankee locker room before the last game in the old stadium.
Richard Topol took over the Berra role at the last minute and is superb. Bill Dawes plays Munson and Mickey Mantle and is quite good in both roles. Francoise Battiste plays Reggie J & Elston Howard. He looks like Jackson and really excels in the role. Wendy Makeena as Carmen Berra is perfect. C J Wilson play Ruth as a blustering blowhard. John Wernke is touching as Gehrig in the early stages of ALS. Chris Henry Coffey plays DiMaggio.
Topol does no look like Berra but you do not care. Battiste as Jackson is a dead ringer for him . Ditto for Dawes in both roles . The weak part is Keith Nobbs as Martin as he simply looks to young for the role.
Summing up it is one of the better shows playing now.
The cast features Emmy Award winner Joe Pantoliano ("The Sopranos") as Yogi Berra, Christopher Jackson (In the Heights) as Derek Jeter, Francois Battiste (Magic/Bird) as Jackson/Elston Howard, Chris Henry Coffey (Water by the Spoonful) as Joe DiMaggio, Bill Dawes (Lombardi) as Mickey Mantle/Thurman Munson, Keith Nobbs (Lombardi) as Billy Martin, John Wernke (The Lyons) as Lou Gehrig, Wendy Makkena (Side Man) as Carmen Berra and C.J. Wilson (Happy Now?) as Babe Ruth.

They quickly move the scenery which is hidden by drapes behind seats. They do not seat latecomers nor are you allowed to leave for a potty break and than return. Once you go out, you can not return until act 2 starts. It is really theater in the square as Max in the producers said. The room is totally square & seats are on all sides.
I've seen all 3 of Simonsons shows, i enjoyed Lombardi, thought Magic/Bird was a total bust and was apprehensive about this one, but Bronx Bombers marks a step back up to atleast Lombardi level. Richard Topol and the actor playing Babe Ruth are phenomenal and are worth the ticket. I feel that if theres some revisions for clarity to the 2nd act and maybe having someone else direct this could really be something. The Jeter thing though is very strange and i think it causes the biggest/plothole issue in the whole thing which is WHEN IS THE DREAM TAKING PLACE? before the intermission it seems to be taking place in the 70s however on the other side of the dream dialogue seems to infer the dream happens the night before the last game at the old Yankee Stadium and this just for me was a huge deus ex machina problem, also the actress playing Yogi's wife, maybe its because I saw Lombardi but all i keep thinking was "Judith Light was suppose to be this part" also did Keith Nobbs really need to be a sports reporter... again? lol. But yeah some clarity/revisions and i wouldn't be surprised to see this on the boards in the spring
