I'm not at all proud of this, but I cry every time the Von Trapps head up the Alps while the Mother Abbess sings "Climb Ev'ry Mountain." It really doesn't matter how mediocre the production, that moment gets me.
Ditto the end of SHENANDOAH when the kid turns up alive and limps into church, moaning, "Pa, Pa".
And since namo brought up the MTM ladies, I not only cried the first time the final MTM SHOW was broadcast, I cried every time that episode was rerun--even when the show was in reruns in NYC and I knew full well another rerun episode would begin in two minutes.
"We Do Not Belong Together" from SUNDAY really sinks my heart and fighting back the tears is pointless; both Mandy and Bernadette were pefect together in chemestry and talent in that musical.
Can't say I'm a cryer, but a good Broadway overture always gets me. The song "You'll Be in my Heart" From Tarzan will make me a mess. Also movies for kids that deal with deep issues but turn out happy in the end ...the Rugrats comes to mind first haha.
Shockingly, I didn't ball when Idina Menzel walked on the stage as I sat front row at If/Then. Just sat in complete awe. All my life I thought I would be a mess.
Opening of lion king Big fish made me weep as did in the heights, blood brothers ending, Opening number of 42nd street, Donna Mckecnhie doing music and the mirror, End of act one of Dreamgirls, rent (seasons of love), Georgia brown singing "as long as he needs me", nell carter singing "mean to me", Lena Horne in her one woman show singing "yesterday when I was young", close every door from Joseph, man of La Mancha, carol channing standing at the top of a stairway in red dress, Tyne daly in gypsy, bernadette singing "unexpected song",any of the wonderful ballads and love songs from Zorba, Liza singing "world goes round", "I loved you once in silence" from Camelot, opening number from pippin,Dame judi singing "send in the clowns", Agnes of god, the ending of 'night Mother, August Osage county, death of a salesman, crazy for you, "favourite son" from will Rogers follies, anyone singing "in buddy's eyes", merrily we roll along, Robert Lindsey in me and my girl, Alan cumming in Macbeth, Betty buckleys "roses turn", the first time or any time I get to attend the tony awards, And most of all, Lin Miguel Mirandas tony award acceptance speech.
Thank god for theatre and musical theatre. The above are combinations of tears of joy, and moments where I have been profoundly moved. I'm very lucky to have seen so much great theatre in my life.
This is an interesting thread that really makes me appreciate theatre as well as the off beat humour of some of the visitors here.
Paul's monologue towards the end of "A Chorus Line" The ending of N2N Steve Kazee's Tony acceptance speech Whenever a character in a book, movie, play, etc. that I connect to dies The finale of Rent The reunion at the end of War Horse Miss Saigon in general Finale of Tommy
The end of Miss Saigon Big Fish -several spots Tracy Bennett singing over the rainbow at the end of 'End if the Rainbow'
The last 15 minutes of N2N I was a complete mess
Anything with kids while I am traveling away from my family. This weekend jt was Billy Elliot in London. I couldn't deal with him reading his mothers letter.
"How Could I Ever Forget?" from Next to Normal. It's so sad and emotional.
Also, the scene in Elisabeth das Musical where Sisi gives her written ultimatum to Franz Joseph, and then nearly succumbs to Death's coaxing before flinching at the last second and declaring that she's too young to just end her life. I find that part very powerful for some reason.
