There is so much available on Netflix that I thought it might help to crowd-source for suggestions. I'm currently on a roll with Nip / Tuck and have Weeds up next, on my Queue. What is your current Netflix "obsession?"

I'm half way through the fourth season of The West Wing.

Orange is the New Black was pretty great - I breezed through that in about a week earlier this summer.

Darker than Black is a really sharp anime. I usually prefer subbed animes to get the original inflection of the voice actors (that's what Hulu's for), but the Funimation dubbing of the series is excellent. Very good horror/sci-fi story about a mysterious wall appearing in Japan that led to the creation of people with incredible abilities at odd costs. One man has to break a finger to levitate, another has to line up 100 rocks in a perfect square to switch his position with any other object in the world. The government is trying to hide their existence but the organized crime groups using the special people aren't making it easy.

I watched all of Desperate Housewives, in real time, but missed the last season. I finally spent the last two weeks watching one or two episodes a day to finish the 8th season. I loved the way it wrapped up.

Wanting a new show, I started Twin Peaks yesterday, and watched the second episode tonight. I am enjoying it- but it is weird. I can't believe it was such a hit on network TV so long ago.

I worked through Friday Night Lights (all five seasons) in a couple of weeks. It was, in my opinion, that good. Hope you enjoy it jnb.

I have this weird thing about only watching tv shows on netflix that have completely ended. Perhaps because I know I can watch it straight through from premiere to finale. Does anyone else have that preference or am I the only one?

I'm not habitually a marathoner with tv (hence why I have 5 or so I'm working through simultaneously) but with FNL I cannot watch more than one in a sitting, it seems. Because emotions.

I'm about to start FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS. I was going to start it yesterday but had to work through 5 episodes of UNDER THE DOME and 4 episodes of UNFORGETTABLE, now that we finally have our CBS back.

Liza's Headband- I agree. That is why I started Twin Peaks, it's all there. If you start one that is still running, sometimes Netflix doesn't have all the seasons, or people are talking about it and you get spoilers, etc. I too enjoy watching a whole series.

I'm working my way through Burn Notice right now - up to season 3. I was watching Hot in Cleveland but they took it away.

I'm also working on Star Trek. Watched the whole original series and animated series. I'm up to Voyage Home which isn't on instant.

A lot of times I'll watch a season of something and then move on to another show. Using that premise I've watched Desperate Housewives, Monk, Crossing Jordan, Buffy, Charmed, Ghost Whisperer, Nip/Tuck

Bumping this. What's everyone watching right now?

I finally latched onto Dexter. Just.... WOW. Truly spectacular so far, with the exception of Season 6. Almost halfway through Season 7 now. Nearly done with the entire series! Right on time for the premiere of House of Cards Season 2 next Friday.

Aw, I'm jealous of you guys getting to experience Friday Night Lights for the first time. That show is, unquestionably, one of the most perfect pieces of television made and probably the best broadcast drama ever produced in the US. I'm still astonished that a big three broadcast network produced such a beautiful, subtle show. Oh, and I don't give a **** about football, in case you think you have to be into sports to enjoy this show.

Hey, FNL fans - do you enjoy Parenthood? I've never watched it because it looks so dramedy-ish and those overly sentimental hybrid shows have never been my cup of tea. But, it was created by Jason Katims, the EP of FNL, so I'm thinking I should give it a shot. He and his team got so much much right with FNL.


Right now I'm finishing up the most recent season of Louie, which continues to surprise and delight. I've also caught up on some excellent documentaries, some of which are not for the faint of heart, including Into the Abyss, The Act of Killing, Man on Wire and How to Survive a Plague -- all highly recommended.

Two critically acclaimed series that I had trouble with and couldn't get past more than 1 or 2 episodes with were House of Cards and Top of the Lake. I was surprised at how much I didn't care for House of Cards -- I mean we've got Kevin Spacey, Robin Wright (an under-appreciated actress, I'd say), David Fincher and $200 million from Netflix! I just couldn't get past Spacey breaking th 4th wall (yes, I know this is a holdover from the original British series) and was disappointed to find Robin Wright's Lady Macbeth-esque character to be so hammy and overcooked. With a bit more subtlety, I think it could have been a very fine show. But, at the end of the day I'm glad Netflix is investing heavily in quality original programming.

Top of the Lake had me really excited. I mean, Jane Campion (one of my favorite directors) and Elizabeth Moss (I'd argue, the second most important character on Mad Men and a fine actress) teaming up for a chilling, cerebral mystery in an unusual NZ setting! Unfortunately, I found Moss' performance messy and unfocused--her attempt at a Kiwi accent was also incredibly strained. And, Campion just seemed lost. I might try to pick this one up again, but why try to force it when there's so much good content being produced?

I'm still working on Star Trek - up to Next Generation now. I like to watch Cheers when I'm making/eating dinner. I started watching The National Parks the other day which is great and I've started Chuck though I'm only two episodes in so far.

I LOVE Parenthood. I started watching because FNL it is my favorite tv show and I was not disappointed. The writing is genius and deals with heavy issues without cheapening them. I'm really looking forward to About A Boy also.

If anybody watched TCM intently last fall you might've caught The Story of Film: An Odyssey. It's narrated by film theorist Mark Cousins, some people did not take to his Welsh brogue but I dug it, who traces from film history to the present in over 12 1 hour+ episodes. A lot of the films he features were shown on in full TCM for the first time which, many of them foreign but critically regarded as classics. It's a really hypnotic series. I spent a weekend watching half of the series in one-sitting. Some of the outside pretenses when it is not about the films are a bit much but to me it was one of the best things on TV last year.
