I didn't love it last year. I don't love it this year. It doesn't know what it wants to be -- a soap opera? (ugh) An insider's look? (Nope.)
McPhee's acting is horrible, her face is void of emotion, her line delivery is cold.
I think most of the characters are horridly written and one dimensional.
WHY don't I like it? It doesn't bring me joy or intrigue -- and I so wanted it to.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
I guess I don't want to bash the critics (at least they watch it). What I really find odd is this community doesn't watch it (low ratings). It seems that shows that are "Love Letters" to broadway seem to find an audience with this community regardless of the quality:
1. The Producers 2. [title of show] (hit off-broadway, flop on broadway) 3. Curtains 4. The Drowsy Chaperone and even those with marginal mentions: Spamalot, Urinetown
And SMASH has a much better scripts with much better acting than Glee, with comparable singing talent. Yet, Glee is a hit... and SMASH is about as low as a prime time major network show has gone...
That is what I don't understand despite everyone's own particular criticisms...
well i did not love SMASH last year, but i LOVE SMASH this yeat...and seeing that ratings are so poor i am DVR'ing every show to make sure i do not miss an episode...i am so caught up this year and wish NBC would put a good show infront of it to boost ratings...maybe THE VOICE coming back will help...i hope so...it once again is in my book as MUST SEE TV for me...Jennifer Hudson is a bad lip-syncr but MAN CAN THAT WOMAN BELT A NOTE...the transition for I GOT LOVE (from PURLIE) from pop song to sexual hotness was astounding to watch...major sophistication
