A reminder that even though The Good Companions is listed in the LP category it is, in fact, the CD. You will see that this is noted in the Seller Information.
Next to the Judi Dench recording of A Little Night Music, the Original London Company of Spend, Spend, Spend is one of the rarest of all cast albums. I thought it would be one of the first to go, but here it is. Proof that you never can tell!
Back when I was doing "Disc of the Day," I wrote the following upthread:
Notably, Spend Spend Spend won the Evening Standard Theatre Awards, Critics' Circle Award and Barclays Theatre Award for Best Musical. It was also nominated for an Olivier Award as Best New Musical, but like The Lion King & Mamma Mia!, famously lost to Honk!
It was nominated for a total of seven Olivier Awards and won for Best Actress in a Musical. The great Barbara Dickson (who stars as Viv and is well-known for Evita, Chess and Blood Brothers) won against competition which included Rachel Leskovac who played Young Viv.
Adding to the collectibility of this disc is the fact that it never received a full distribution. It was only available at the theatre and through mail-order (I'd imagine Dress Circle acquired some copies too).
Clips from Spend Spend Spend plus Michael Ball presenting Barbara Dickson with her Olivier Award live onstage following a performance. Imagine if the Tonys were presented this way...
I just added the promo for The Beautiful Game. It is listed as a collectible under the OLC, but as noted in the listing:
IMPORTANT NOTE: This is not the pictured original cast recording, but as stated on the cardboard case, "This special limited edition CD includes a selection of songs from The Beautiful Game and an exclusive interview in which David Frost talks to Andrew Lloyd Webber and Ben Elton about their new musical." The discs contains 9 tracks and runs approximately 37.5 minutes. Numbers are a mix of demos and recordings from the workshop.
In a couple of minutes, I'll also be listing the two song promo of Reba singing You Can't Get A Man With A Gun and, one of my favorite songs, I Got Lost In His Arms.
Sorry it took me so long to get Reba listed. Amazon was being temperamental. Item is listed with the following IMPORTANT NOTE: "This is NOT the item pictured/listed, but it is the exceedingly rare two song promo CD of Reba McEntire singing You Can't Get A Man With A Gun and I Got Lost in His Arms. The CD runs approximately 8.2 minutes. Cardboard holder shows some signs of wear but is in relatively good condition. Free upgrade to First Class shipping!"
