Despite scorching sun, we enjoyed Thursday's performances. Here are some thoughts. "Mary Poppins" was a no-show but "Newsies" as a replacement was excellent. The cast of "Chicago" was superb despite mike/sound problems. They continued as the Broadway troopers do. They wisely did not perform, "We Both Reached For the Gun" out of respect for all the recent shootings nationwide. "Roxie" was wonderful! I was disappointed that no mention of the passing of Marvin Hamlisch was made and that guy from the casino at Aqueduct coming around during performances was just plain rude and thoughtless. I was stunned when a fight almost broke-out over the lady with the umbrella blocking the view of those behind her. Everybody had a great time and I saw nobody leaving until the last performance was through. Bravo!
I contacted them about Mary Poppins as it's one of my favorites. They replied that due to recent cast changes, they were unable to perform. I guess Newsies performed as their replacement. I missed last weeks', did Lion King perform?
I'm so sorry I missed this one! I would have loved to see Corey Cott, and Kara Lindsay too. When I saw Newsies, her understudy (who was great) went on for her.
The week I went, ANYTHING GOES was a no-show, which made me sad. I guess it was cause it closed early... They could have had Stephanie J. Block come out and do something from ANYTHING GOES or EDWIN DROOD though... that would have been nice.
