OK, so this board seems semi-obsessed with all things Carrie, I thought I would mention the most recent casting news. Chloe Moretz has signed to play the title role, and Deadline just announced that Julianne Moore has been offered the role of Margaret White:
Julianne Moore also did the Vera Miles part in the Psycho remake so it is not like she is above this. But I hope she says no and that this like other 'MGM remaking their best movies cuz they're broke news' will be in production hell.
The photos are almost like Vanity Fair Oscar season recreations. So spot on they deliver no first-glance surprise. And though I'm an uber-fan of Moore, I'm already aware than she's competing with the iconic imagery of Piper Laurie, who gave Margaret White a beatific look and demeanor unlike anything else, including her own distinguished repertoire. I hope it's good. At this stage, it looks unnecessary.

I don't know where I was. Probably going insane somewhere...LOL Julianne may do okay, I just that as unncessary as it is to do another movie, if they're going to do it they should be true to its origins, but I can be a bit of purist. I'm surprised I liked the Regent Park Into the Woods. It's wonderful, but very different from the original.
Sometimes, I don't mind differences in the appearance of a character from book to movie. If Hitchcock had stayed true to Norman Bates's description in the book, Anthony Perkins would never have been considered.
Seriously though, Anthony Perkins in Psycho is an amazing performance. But I don't like it when actors cast in book-into-movie roles don't reflect what is on the page. There's a double standard there
I don't mind straying either, and Piper Laurie was amazing as Margaret. Patricia Clarkson was okay, but I think the script for that one was not very good and she had little to work with.
Really, the closest to margaret physically was Barbara Cook. to quote Miranda Richardson in regard to the character of M. Giry on stage "she looked like a giant exclamation mark"
Any actress who plays Carrie is going to be compared unfavorably to Sissy Spacek and there are very few directors who have the visual storytelling skill of Brian DePalma (maybe the Coen brothers could pull it off).
OMG BOB! A Coen brothers version would be very acceptable in my eyes. Also, Carrie is supposed to be a much different looking firl than has been depicted in movies. If they were to cast closer to the novel, who could play her?
That looks like the exact same set of the house interior from 1976 behind Julianne Moore. Except they gave it a brand new coat of paint ... like yesterday. I think it's still wet.

"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

I have never read the novel (I didn't even know it was an adaptation). How is she depicted?
