Many years ago Columbia House sold DVDs of complete episodes, two per DVD with intros for many with Carol, Tim, and Harvey. There were about 25 DVDs of 50 total eps. I hope that the upcoming DVDs are not the same 50 episodes!!

The 50 episodes were from the 1972-78 years, with one ep from 1979 [when she did a summer season of shows on ABC].

Re the 1967-72 seasons, the plus side is that the guests were of a higher caliber than many guests from 1972-78; the down side is that the sketches are not as good in 67-72.

Do you know what happens when you let Veal Prince Orloff sit in an oven too long?

@ EricMontreal. Don't feel bad. I also broke down and purchased a 60 disc DVD set of all 500+ episodes of PEYTON PLACE. I didn't regret it one bit. They were of decent quality, uncut with zero commercial interruptions.

20th Century-Fox is letting that show just rot in it's vault. It's a damn shame.

I think that's the same set--recorded from the Romance Channel, right? (Which I know aired the full show twice way back--I don't know all those funny smaller US cable stations but I believe Romance became Hallmark). Yeah I was surprised at how decent they were--and that they included the really rare (though apparently not very good) three tv movie sequels inclusing the 80s one which was a pilot never picked up for a New Generation/Dallas-y type version.

It's frustrating--I don't know what Fox thinks they can do with the series otherwise. Shout Factory was doing a great job with them, and I doubt anyone (network/cable or DVD company) would pay more, and Fox will probably never release such a long and old series themselves... (I mean more popular primetime soaps like Knots Landing still haven't got more than a couple of seasons out)

@EricMontreal: YES! Those are the ones. They were recorded from Romance Classics back in early 2000-2001. They aired the entire run, commercial free and un-cut.

Such a great show! I love, love, love Barbara Parkins as Betty Anderson Harrington Cord Harrington! She was THE BEST and Ryan O'Neal was friggin' HOT back then!

Ooops! Did we just threadjack?

I remember a skit where Tim Conway was a bumbling soldier - Harvey Korman told him to load a cannon and would go off to fight. Conway agreed and struggled with the weight of the ball. Somehow the ball ended up in Conways pants -- I remember laughing hysterically at this as a kid but haven't been able to find the skit since. I HOPE it's in one of these sets!

jasonf, found that skit on youtube. Hilarious!

As a kid I loved watching The Carol Burnett Show and The Dean Martin Show. Would love to see either of those again the same way, or as close to as possible, as I did way back then.

TVShowsOnDVD.com had an update on the Carol Burnett DVD news. http://tvshowsondvd.com/news/Carol-Burnett-DVD-Update/16845
For one thing, this is answered:
A number of people asked us if this would possibly include episodes from the 1967-1972 era of the show, when it was produced under the "Burngood, Inc." shingle. We thought at first that the answer could be a "yes," but Time Life cleared this up with us and explained that their first releases will NOT include episodes from those early seasons, after all. There will indeed be new-to-DVD episodes on these releases (combined with previously-on-DVD episodes)...it just won't be from any of those first four seasons.

However, the answer to the question "will there be other releases later, beyond these four titles?" is that YES, there are indeed plans to release additional episodes. Season sets are NOT part of the plan, but you could indeed see additional rounds of hand-picked releases on DVD, similar to the ones on this first round that Time Life is putting out.

Great...I'll buy the bootlegs from you!

Actually, for what you seem to get, it seems a fair price. Why do I feel taken advantage of, though?

This PBS American Masters ep on Burnett is pretty fab.
Carol Burnett: A Woman of Character

"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter
