A few of my friends and I are thinking of rushing for Seminar's Saturday matinee. Are there usually many people rushing for the show? We were thinking of arriving at the box office at 11:30 (and they give out the tickets at noon). Should we get there earlier? What do you think?
We did rush today and arrived at noon (tickets went on sale at 1pm)
There were only two people in front of us waiting, but about 15-20 behind us by the time they went on sale. Not sure if everyone behind us got tickets, but a good number of them did.
So we probably could have gone a half hour ahead of time and still gotten tickets today...
I passed the line a few times this week and it gets pretty long. I saw it go all the way past The Mountaintop on a Tuesday but be only a couple of people on a Friday. Probably varies by day...

I was at the Saturday Matinee this weekend for Seminar. I didn't have any problems getting rush tickets. I got there around 12:30 and there was no line. I will say the tickets are in the very back of the theater in the nose bleed section, but surprisingly you can still see pretty well...definitely worth it!
I rushed the evening performance on Saturday and got there an hour before box office opened (so around 5:00) and I think I was 5th in line. As time went one more people started coming and the line did get pretty long.
I did the evening rush on Saturday as well. I happened to be walking by and did it on a whim, so I didn't get on the line until about 5 minutes before the box office opened. I was about 20th in line and did get a ticket, as did at least 5 people behind me.
This Sunday, April 1, is the last performance for ALAN RICKMAN, LILY RABE & HAMISH LINKLATER, so it might be tight. If there's more demand on the phones, internet, box office window and TKTS, they won't have student rush, which is always 'subject to availability.'
Your best bet is to do student rush on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday evening or at least, the Saturday matinee. And yep, the seats are generally in the back of the mezzanine, but in an 800 seat theatre, getting a $81.50 seat for $29.50, it's still a great deal.
From what I understand, Hamish will only be performing on Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday this week. The new cast of SEMINAR starts Tuesday, April 3.
The number of people who will not see a show they don't want to see... is unlimited.

Someone posted on twitter Hamish Linklater wasn't performing Tuesday this week. Paired with what you've heard, that leaves him just perfoming on Saturday and Sunday? I wanted to go specifically to catch his performance after really enjoying him in a past few shows, but I'm not liking my odds here. Was even just considering biting the bullet and paying full price, but not so sure I'll chance it now. Disappointing!
There's a chance Hamish will do the show Wednesday, March 28, but not scheduled for Thursday or Friday, returning for his last three shows over the weekend. His understudy got a great response tonight. If you can't do student rush, ask at the box office if the last two rows mezzanine are available ($51.50) or if the discount price is available in the rear mezzanine (rows A thru F normally $81.50) for $69. Check TKTS, too. Sometimes they get good close orchestra seats, on the side yes, but still good in this small house. TKTS will probably have seats all this week except Sunday, the last performance for the original cast.
