When did you see your first Broadway show?

Hey Broadway World San Diegans!
I thought it might be fun to see swap stories about our first musicals.
When did you see your first Broadway show? And what was it?
I'll go first!
My first Broadway musical was The Phantom of The Opera and I saw it when I was a freshman in High School. Our English teacher took our class to see the show up in San Francisco when it first started touring. We were sitting up in the nose bleed section - upper, upper balcony. Even though we couldn't see the stage very well, my best friend and I fell in love with the music. We bought the cast recording and listened to it everyday. I got to see the show again in London's West End right before I went away to college. Then I got the chance to actualy work with a few of the cast members from the national touring production when I helped promote the show with Broadway/San Diego a few years ago. (Talk about your dream come true!) To this day, the music still gives me chills! As for my best friend, he's a closeted Broadway fanatic. He won't admit that he loves musicals to any of our friends, but he told me he listens to "Defying Gravity" in the gym when he works out.

I saw my first Broadway show in September of 2001 (the week before 911 actually). RENT was my cherry popper and I was blown away. A friend's father was treating us to a couple of shows, but up to this point I'd never even heard the soundtrack. But, after that I became a Renthead (said with love). I tried to purchase the soundtrack in quarters but they wouldn't take them so a stranger gave me a $20 in exchange for my quarters.

I saw my first show on Broadway about a year and a half ago, when I finally made it to New York for the first time! And then I took in THREE ("A Chorus Line", "Phantom" and "Spring Awakening"- I was also supposed to see "Grease," but I got lost on the subway... and left my purse behind... long story).

But I was very fortunate to have parents who loved the theatre, so I grew up going to shows. The one I remember as my "first," that changed everything for me, was "42nd Street." I'm a hoofer, and so seeing that show for the first time was INCREDIBLE. I saw it at some outdoor theatre in Kansas City, MO at 7 years old, and that night, I made it my goal to someday dance on a dime! I finally got the chance about 8 years later, when I got cast as a "chorine" in a production at the Riverside Civic Light Opera in California. TOTAL dream come true!!!
