you just love to hear yourself say ridiculous things.

There is no world where Nikki is in the top two for that award.

We demiss you because you post absolute nonsense on these threads like a stupid troll! Unless you can provide proof to back your statements, we cannot believe a word that comes out of your mouth. Once again, you are the same one who said Bad Cinderella was gonna be the BEST MUSICAL EVER last year, which is so far from the truth. You then flipped-flopped on Back to the Future and once again, you're doing it with Gatsby. PLEASE GO AWAY!

Edit: Also, the only reason why Gatsby is selling anything at all is because of Eva and Jeremy. If those two were not leading the show, then this would have flopped badly.

The idea is to work and to experiment. Some things will be creatively successful, some things will succeed at the box office, and some things will only - which is the biggest only - teach you things that see the future. And they're probably as valuable as any of your successes. -Harold Prince

Gatsby has some promising numbers that show it might have and find an audience but in New York City 2024 that unfortunately no longer constitutes a ‘hit’. it helps the show stay afloat but they are definitely not out of the woods and it’s too early to tell if they will turn a profit. If I think of the trajectory of most shows that make a profit I would bet against unless it wins the Tony for Best Musical or there are signs that word of mouth is growing stronger than it is currently.

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

If cost is a consideration, I imagine a ticket to Gatsby can be had much cheaper than one for Merrily.

Just like The Great Gatsby is a huge hit. There. Is only one person on this board who I have found as annoying as you. It was 6-7 years ago and he was a young know-it-all…have you come back under a different name???

Ah, PhillyPinto... a name that shall live on in infamy.

I think the IP is strong for Great Gatsby in NYC area. I had to read the book back in high school and I presume majority of Americans did so as well. Folks are somewhat familiar with the story and that helps in selling tickets.

As for between the two, Merrily is my answer too.

Not to derail the thread, but Kecia Lewis is going to win, in my opinion.

If Gatsby wins the Tony for Best Musical it will certainly be something, since it isn't even nominated.

Even if it's awful I hope it stays open long enough that I get to see it.

I was underwhelmed by Merrily as a show.  But the cast were all good.

I feel like we need a BWW purgatory for threads like these.  It seems like OP has had their question answered and this thread is still ongoing out of sheer spite and entertainment value (though I AM quite entertained)

The ones saying Nikki m James won’t win want their performances big.  You don’t understand how brilliant she is on the stage.  You are back to the future.
