Mamma Mia! in London moved to its second theatre The Prince of Wales as Cameron Mackintosh wanted The Prince Edward for Mary Poppins but The Prince of Wales had been given a multimillion refurbishment so it wasn't really an issue as they got to upgrade the show, the move to the Novello, I suspect it was because Cameron Mackintosh wanted The Book of Mormon at the Prince of Wales. It does remind of how 42nd Street moved from the Winter Garden to the Majestic then to the St James to make way for Cats at the Winter Garden and Phantom at the Majestic.

"how 42nd Street moved from the Winter Garden to the Majestic then to the St James to make way for Cats at the Winter Garden and Phantom at the Majestic."

except according to playbillvault there were 3 different production between 42nd St. and Cats...

From what I recall, David Merrick moved "42nd Street" from the Winter Garden to the Majestic because the Majestic had about 200 more seats than the Winter Garden and those extra seats at an SRO show were worth about $2.5 million a year at the time.
