Oh I see...we're just going to cast Cloris Leachman in every role Irene Ryan has ever done. How ORIGINAL!

Here's my pitch for the film: A student at Carnegie Mellon attends a circus, where a troupe of players are about to tell the story of Pippin, and suddenly the student starts to see the story in his head with himself as Pippin because the one thing he shares with him is that they're both looking for their "Corners of the Sky"!

Directed By David O. Russell
Pippin: Matthew James Thomas (or an unknown)
The Leading Player: Patina Miller (knowing she's going to be apart of The Hunger Games...)
Charlemagne: Victor Garber
Fastrada: Catherine Zeta-Jones
Berthe: Angela Lansbury (or Andrea Martin if she wants to do it again)
Catherine: Amy Adams (or Michelle Williams)

I think you could cross-cut between a theatrical setting and a realistic setting throughout a movie. If you kept it on a stage, there is no reason to make a film adaptation.

And Daniel Radcliffe could be a very interesting choice, too.

"I'm not altogether pleased about this announcement unless it becomes, as Gothampc derisively put it, a "direct to video" release."

And the thing is that there is already a version of Pippin on video. The Canadian production, while I'm glad it's out there, shows how limited the show is when it's not on stage.

Amy Adams? a 40 year old Catherine and a 24 - 26 year old Pippin. Uh huh, yeah I see that happening.

I actually think Justin Timberlake could make a fantastic Leading Player rather than Pippin. He can dance, sing, act, and he's at the top of the charts right now.

I'd rather see Clo than Meryl Creep(ing into every movie). And Angela Lansbury is a bit too "precious" for the role.

I'd love to see some of the stage cast (specifically Patina) tranfser with this and then get big names for the other parts.

Estelle Getty would have been perfect for the last video version if The Golden Girls had been a thing at the time.

Well, how old is Rachel Bay Jones, because from photos I've seen of her, she looks much older than Matthew James Thomas?

I have no idea how old Miss Jones is. All I know is that John Rubinstein was 26 and Jill Clayburgh was 28 when they originated the roles. If Catherine is supposed to be older I am sure it's not by much and certainly not an (almost) 20 year age difference.

This is what RBJ had to say about her age: “Old enough that Stephen Schwartz had to add jokes about Catherine’s age into the script”

Was that really necessary, though? I mean, Catherine's old enough to be a widow and have a kid who is (these days) usually cast as a tween/teen.

I think an "older" Catherine works better.

Though the idea of Jennifer Lawrence (I know she doesn't sing) as Catherine intrigues me

The guy who wrote "The Spectacular Now" is doing the screenplay?

I wish they had gotten someone who is a bit more whimsical.

I wish they stuck with the draft they had when the rights were owned by Miramax.

The more I think about Usher the more I like the idea of him as the Leading Player. If they decide to go with a woman in role -- Kerry Washington.

Daniel Radcliffe would be interesting choice for Pippin but I doubt he would do the role.

Nicole Kidman would make a good Fastrada.

For Berthe, if there are no acrobatics involved (and I don't think there will be) I'd like to see an older comedic actress in the role -- Shirley MacLaine, Carol Burnett, Lily Tomlin and Judi Dench come to mind. Updated On: 12/9/13 at 06:55 PM

Any of those ladies would be great, but don't forget, in a movie, they can trick things with CGI and use stunt doubles. So anything is possible.

Remember Carol Channing in Thoroughly Modern Millie?
