It is supposed to be on HD - maybe that was why it was the first time that I had noticed a tiny Valjean walking up the hill/mountain in the first scene. Such attention to detail by Hooper. I understand this is where he sings " Freedom is mine..."
This version is also a better option for downloading.
Looks great! The staging looks perfect. Needs more Aaron Tveit, though! :)
My only real complaints are that it doesn't tell you what the story's actually about, and it really makes it look like Anne Hathaway has a large part in the movie. If you didn't know the story you'd think she was the main character. Fantine's important but she physically isn't in the story all that long.
Loved her rendition of IDaD, though! If I want to hear it belted there are plenty of other places to go...
It is a teaser trailer, they rarely give much about the story away. Id suspect, and hope, the full trailer will give more away which I guess would be released in the Autumn
"One of the most striking visuals from the trailer is when the "Lovely Ladies" emerge from the stretch of archways."
I agree -- that's when I went from being merely excited to "Must. See. First. Day!"
Cheyenne Jackson tickled me. AFTER ordering SoMMS a drink but NOT tickling him, and hanging out with Girly in his dressing room (where he DIDN'T tickle her) but BEFORE we got married. To others. And then he tweeted Boobs. He also tweeted he's good friends with some chick on "The Voice" who just happens to be good friends with Tink's ex. And I'm still married. Oh, and this just in: "Pettiness, spite, malice ....Such ugly emotions... So sad." - After Eight, talking about MEEEEEEEE!!! I'm so honored! :-)
Talk about the power of suggestion! I was going to say it looks visually stunning but I was unimpressed with Anne's interpretation of "I Dreamed a Dream", but now I'm totally on board for how beautiful and tragic it really is. I mean, we have a thousand versions of that song being belted, it is quite interesting to have this soft sound from a hollow and empty woman. It's very lovely.
OK i am sorry but yes Anne sounds great and brings a real performance to the song in the trailer, but the rest of the trailer looks.......bland. If anyone who does not really know anything about Les Mis they will be totally put it off, it tells you nothing. It's lots of people looking to the camera or the distance. Don't get me wrong i am looking forward to the film but this trailer is forgettable, i am sure the next ones will be better.
Namo i love u but we get it already....you don't like Madonna
Wow. I am blown away. LES MIZ is my favortite thing in the whole world and this is sure to not disappoint after seeing that!
But... More Aaron as Enjolras, please!
"TO LOVE ANOTHER PERSON IS TO SEE THE FACE OF GOD"- LES MISERABLES---
"THERE'S A SPECIAL KIND OF PEOPLE KNOWN AS SHOW PEOPLE... WE'RE BORN EVERY NIGHT AT HALF HOUR CALL!"--- CURTAINS
Have there been any glimpses/pictures of the Thenardiers? Considering who they cast, I can picture it in my mind. I was just wondering if there has been anything official.
And I think that Les Miz has such a humongous recognition factor that not detailing what it's about in the trailer isn't really a problem.
I mean, even if for those who have never heard of the musical (which must be few in number considering how Susan Boyle brought it into everyone's consciousness just last year), the book is a classic in the canon of Western Lit.

One of the most beloved novels of all time, which has been filmed countless times (silents, talkies, television, in period, loosely out of period, and most recently with Liam Neeson, Claire Danes, Uma Thurman and Geoffrey Rush), and which has been an international stage mega-hit for decades, the movie of the musical having received a great deal of buildup in the press (the kind of press noticed by anyone likely to notice a teaser trailer, including fans of musical theater and the novel (who already know the story!) and fans of its stars). Logic dictates that the teaser trailer did not need to instruct its target audience about the narrative content with specificity (and would most likely bore its target audience if it did); in addition, the song and visuals say a great deal about period and tone.
It's a beautiful teaser trailer. Hathaway's rendition is exactly what it should be. It make little impact when we initially hear it in voiceover and a strong connection and identification when we hear it simultaneous with seeing her on-screen; which is exactly what makes this a movie, and, by all appearances, one which promises intimacy and depth. The visuals are striking and show Hooper's gifts for moving a classic (so evident in his British television work, which has raised literature translations in the UK small screen to new heights). Jackman and Crowe look very much the parts; making me revise my earlier concern that they should have reversed roles.
Filming is still ongoing, although it seems they are on the last legs. The Thenardier scenes were delayed because of previous commitments of the actors, hence no such scenes were part of the teaser/traileer.
If you have followed some of the cast tweets ( can you believe the best clues re filming came from Russell Crowe's Les Mis libretto-oriented tweets?), there are a lot of details that can be gleaned about how filming went on. They seemed to have really put on very long hours and a strong commitment to get the singing/acting right. But it was also very pleasing to read what they shared on the results! Like how Bring Him Home and Stars were completed
Just about everything I've heard, read, and seen about this movie has piqued my interest and enthusiasm. This trailer only serves to increase my anticipation. Hathaway dispels the early criticisms from some on this board that she couldn't pull off Fantine.
"It does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are 20 gods or no god. It neither picks my pocket, nor breaks my leg."

I was actually a bit stunned after watching the trailer. It looks fantastic. I loved Hathaway's take on the song, and the look and feel of the movie feels like how I imagined the detail of the musical on stage to translate to a more detailed canvas.
For those of you who didn't realize, you can switch the clip in the original link to HD. The option is in the bottom right hand corner of the clip. It does make it a lot better and looks great in fullscreen.
i don't really have much of an emotional attachment to les mis, so i'm not that invested in how it turns out, but the trailer looks great and it's refreshing that they're treating the source material with such seriousness and respect. this team seems committed to delivering the best possible film version of the show, which is admirable, and we all know is not always the case.
