It does say they're presenting the original musical. If all they do is add a few small scenes to introduce it or some narration, I can see how they could get away with a revival.
Exactly what's so innovative about Spring Awakening?? This isn't the first time this has been done on Broadway. And who's going to vote for a show to win a TONY that closes 5 months before the TONYS? And it's not even doing that well.
Both categories are going to be tough this year I suspect. I mean this with this cast. She loves me with that cast. Spring awakening with its innovative approach and all the buzz that it's better than the original. Fiddler with Danny Burstein.
Then of course on the other side we have Hamilton and some other shows coming in that have yet to be seen but to me are promising.
Scott Rudin is many things, but dumb I don't think is one of them. I feel if there is a way he can get this in a category where it doesn't face the possibility of facing Hamilton (i.e. Best Revival of a Musical) he will probably will try to make it happen.
Of course, he could also think that he has a chance against Hamilton, in which case more power to him.
Scott Rudin is dumb because he is responsible for the lack of long running plays on Broadway. The fact that we even have one running right now is amazing.
For creating this "get a Hollywod star for 10 weeks only!" People are buying tickets to see a star and not the play. Producers need to produce new and exciting work and follow the Curious Incident template.
The show just launched the website with bios, the commercial, and "about the show". Even in the about section, they're still pushing this is a revival.
SO excited for this! Seeing it the week of the Tony nominations.
Also...what a beautiful website!

I'm SO EXCITED for this show. I got to attend a preview event that was held where George C. Wolfe and Savion Glover talked about the show, and Billy Porter, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Brandon Victor Dixon, Joshua Henry, and Adrienne Warren performed, along with a bunch of the dance ensemble. All three of the performances were incredible, especially a new number that is staged as a tap battle

Between two shows that the creators of Shuffle Along wrote, after Shuffle Along became a success and the group broke up, with the writers trying to individually duplicate the success.
It was things like this, where they had a brand new song, and brand new book, that I became confused about how they could still be counted as a revival. I think the Tony committee will have a tough time on their hands deciding where to put this one. Regardless, the performances were amazing, and I think Broadway is in for a treat. How lucky we are to have Shuffle Along sharing this story of a history making musical, that helped to desegregate Broadway and theaters around the country, playing around the corner from Hamilton. Imagine that double show day!

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?

Does anybody know why tickets aren't available the last week of March (3/27-the following weekend)? I looked on telecharge and it looks like there aren't any performances that entire week. Are they going dark to tweak things during previews? I haven't heard of that before but didn't know if that was a thing....
ALSO, sorry that this doesn't necessarily relate to the thread...I just didn't feel like starting a thread for a simple question!

Yeah--knew this already. I was wondering about the last week of March, not this summer. Anybody have any ideas why there aren't tickets?

I understood the sentiment but how is it really any different from Cinderella which had a radically changed book, additional numbers and had never appeared on Broadway before yet was deemed a revival?
You may have missed the first one. I purchased mine with a discount code from BroadwayBox but it appears to no longer be listed on the website. $55 Mezz tickets!
