Based on the postings here, the fans will love it. Can they keep the show running? The one night concert sold out, but that does not make a long run hit>

"Yes, please! Bring Bombshell to Broadway!"

By the time this does get to Bway I am sure Megan will no longer want to be attached[moved on] and there will be plenty of time to generate a television competition to 'discover' another new singing Marilyn.

Fresh blood is needed.

Never doubt the power of a possible Tony nominee as reason enough to spend 2 years developing this. Megan will definitely want to do it!

I can't imagine there being any world in which Megan Hilty wouldn't be interested in playing Marilyn onstage. And she would be terrific in it.

If she's in an eventual (allegedly-Broadway-bound) production, do you think they'll record the updated version? I can't imagine it being exactly the same, and I'd enjoy an actual cast singing (unlike the robotic chorus that sang on the show's album) and I'd especially enjoy finally having Megan's performances of the songs Katharine sang (and aren't available to own): 20th Century Fox Mambo and Cut Print Moving On.

I think the appeal of a Marilyn Monroe musical is pretty appealing as well. I know it has failed before but at least this one will have more going for it (great score, an already built in fan-base) we just have to wait for the book!

I always found Megan, like the show was presented on screen, too cartoony.  She never seemed to capture the fragile side of Marilyn, just a caracature.  Sure she can belt out a song, but for me the acting wasnt there. I suspect by the time this comes to the stage (if it does) they will go for someone new.  I also much preferred Katherines version of Dont Forget Me

I think its pretty safe to assume that the creative team is going to ask Hilty (that is if Spielberg doesn't get in the way...ugh), and Hilty is definitely interested...the always humble Megan Hilty said that she just "hopes to get an audition".

Megan should know... she doesn't need to audition if the part was already hers ever since the beginning! NBC Developing BOMBSHELL Musical

Would it be produced by universal?

NBC and Universal are the same company.

I completely agree with you. Megan Hilty is a powerhouse, and I would love to see her as Marilyn, but I thought Katharine Mcphee showed the more intimate side of Marilyn.

Well, the show didn't show much of any of the portrayals...we saw the production numbers and a few bits of dialogue, but that's it...nothing to form a complete portrayal from.

I will say, however, I though Hilty handled all of the musical numbers brilliantly.. And in her defense, she got the flashy Marilyn numbers that played heavily on her persona, not "Never Give All The Heart" (ok, she did get it, but it was a shortened version), and even then, that was really the only emotional musical number Kat got, and I didn't really get "intimate" or "vulnerable" from it.
Hilty also got the bits of dialogue, which fully displayed her vulnerability. There was the monologue about not wanting to be "a thing", and the brief scene with JFK, which I found to be pretty brilliant. And "Secondhand White Baby Grand" speaks for itself.

I also prefer Hilty's "Don't Forget Me"--she found a way to elevate the song to a whole other level. Katherine has an amazing voice, and it was a triumph for her character, but I felt Hilty not only sang it well, but acted it well...

But then again, Kat didn't have all of the musical numbers/scenes that Megan did, but I'm just going by what I saw and thought.

If I'm being honest, the only people from the SMASH cast that I'd want to see involved in the Broadway production are Christian Borle and Katharine McPhee, and if you can't get either of them, it's best, IMO, to go completely new with the casting.

As far as actually adapting the show goes, I really don't see much need to change things significantly, although I do agree that two Marilyns is the way to go (although I'd try to find actresses who both have the same vocal range and a similar singing style as opposed to the contrasting ranges and styles we saw with Katharine and Megan).

It needs a FANTASTIC book and "Dig Deep" and "Our Little Secret" need to stay cut. They were undoubtedly the worst songs in the score and I was actually relieved that they weren't included in the concert. I'm generally of the opinion that Marilyn Monroe's life shouldn't be glamorized in a musical play...but if it can be done, Bombshell is probably coming the closest. I'll believe it when I see it in full...

I didn't mind Our Little Secret, but thought the idea of Dig Deep worked way better than the song itself did. I guarantee there will be some rewrites, revisions and replacements.

Found this footage of the "Marilyn: An American Fable" and find it fascinating to see this take on a Marilyn Musical and how it compares with Bombshell.
Shame it wasn't preserved better or more complete (although other tracks can be found online) - but then again it ran for only seventeen performances.
