I may not care for her at all, but someone asked Grace Randolph a question yesterday about when we could start seeing less of Disney doing live action re-tellings of their animated classics. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=soHepTRCCPE
The beauty and the beast trailer beat star wars record for the most viewed trailer. The only thing is universal is trying to make a little mermaid remake as well. Disney will probably try and beat them to it like the beat WB for Jungle Book.
i don't know whether they are doing a live action version of the original 1989 version or going by the original Hans Christian Anderson version, but apparently they have already cast Ariel. Chloe Grace Moretz is taking on the role...

In our millions, in our billions, we are most powerful when we stand together. TW4C unwaveringly joins the worldwide masses, for we know our liberation is inseparably bound.

As mentioned above, this new adaption starring Chloë Grace Moretz is based on the original Hans Christian Anderson story and has nothing to do with the 1989 Disney animated musical film. Sofia Coppola was once attached to direct this but withdrew due to creative differences.
Word on the grapevine is that they are looking at doing the same thing they did with Emma Watson on Beauty and the Beast. She was originally attatched to Warner Bros Beauty and the Beast and left to join Disney's.
Chloe Moretz is currently being rumored to join this one as Ariel.
I love these clips from PattyCake productions. It's interesting, their clips of BATB and Maleficent give me more goosebumps than the Hollywood film versions. For example the scene "Belle" just sparkles, unlike the Emma Watson film version. This little Mermaid clip gives me goosebumps too. Of course they use different songs etc, but it's the way they dare to go all the way with it, original camera shots and I just love the feeling of the pre-recorded tracks, which makes it feel much more like sung thoughts and not too literal, which is essential for this artform on film. Also, they use better singers, which results in soaring scenes, no matter how camp or exaggerated. They have the balls to take the sung thoughts to the next level and beyond, instead of apologizing for it by speak singing or toning it down to make it falsely literal.
I love the following casting choices they have picked...
HENRY CAVILL - PRINCE ERIC (couldn't be more perfect for the role!)
QUEEN LATIFAH - URSULA (although i think she would be good, another idea would be KATHLEEN TURNER as she has the deep sinister voice that Ursula conveys!)
KEVIN HART - SEBASTIAN
MEGAN FOX - VANESSA
SETH MCFARLANE - SCUTTLE (i think his quick wit and humour would be amazing!)
MELISSA McCARTHY - CARLOTTA (i think this would be inspired casting!)
JASON ALEXANDER - CHEF LOUIS (again, i think this would be inspired casting!)
The casting choice they have picked for one of the sisters, is ALEXANDRA DADARRIO, where i think would be a good casting choice for Ariel.
For the casting of KING TRITON, I think a good choice would be Liam Neeson.
