I tried this twice, to great results. At Falsettos, I left a note for Heather McRae. Sure enough, at the stage door after the production I was allowed upstairs to the dressing rooms, bypassing Phil Donahue, Marlo Thomas and Marcia Lewis. It wasn't a long visit, but it was wonderful chatting with Heather and having our pictures taken. It also enabled me to meet the rest of the cast, Michael Rupert, Stephen Bogardus, Carole Carmello, Chip Zien and Barbara Walsh. It was a great experience. Also went backstage at the Shubert late in the A Chorus Line run. It was interesting, but not nearly as much fun!
Sounds wonderful! How did you go about making it happen? I'm going to see Alan Rickman in Seminar at the Golden Theater in NYC this December and I'd like to give it a try.
It should be noted that FALSETTOS was 20 years ago.
Not saying, snapesmistress, that your wish can't come true, but times have changed, and I'm not so sure a note will gain you access to a major movie star these days.
You should certainly try, though, and don't mention your online handle.

Thanks, Phyllis. Now I havt to clean diet coke off my screen!
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
I shouldn't have mentioned his name, people always seem to react like I'm some sort of screaming fan girl. Yes, I loved Snape from Harry Potter, but I was a fan of Alan's work long before that and I'm not trying to declare undying love or anything like that.
Anyway, for those of you who did give advice, I appreciate it very much. The answer I was looking for though was, how do I go about doing this? Do I leave a note at the stage door before the show?
Yes, that's what I did with Falsettos. A SHORT note explaining why you request an audience. Works much better if it concerns a family member! Good luck!
I don't understand what you mean about 'requesting an audience'? Aren't you basically asking to meet the actors backstage after the show, or is this different? I don't mean this in a nasty way, just curious. :)
Well since you don't mean it in a nasty way,Millie, "requesting an audience with" is a synonym for "asking to meet" or asking to "be received" by someone.
