The Playhouse in San Antonio opened its production of HAIRSPRAY to a nearly sold-out crowd on July 7, 2017. There was a lot of buzz about this production, especially about Director Omar Leos. It seemed that everyone had high hopes for this production as Leos prepared the cast. And as it turns out, there was no disappoint in this production of HAIRSPRAY. It is an audience favorite in general and it's obvious to see that The Playhouse delivered a topnotch production.

As a not-so-typical boy meets girl love story, SHREK, THE MUSICAL is a great adaptation of the original Dreamworks animated movie. With a cast of characters including Pinocchio, the Three Little Pigs, Donkey and Lord Farquaad, this show is bound to entertain a variety of audiences.

San Antonio, Texas has a rich history especially that of the Alamo and many military bases that have existed over the years. But, along with its history, San Antonio also has a lot of talent that has been seen at many of the local theaters rich in history. One such theater is that of the Harlequin Theatre located on Ft. Sam Houston Military Base.

Yesterday was the big one: Tech Day. For those unfamiliar, that means we do a rough run of the show where we add technical elements like set changes or lighting, stopping and starting to adjust or solidify traffic patters, take a dinner break, and then run the show again from start to finish.

Today was officially my favorite day. In addition to working with the Dragon for the first time and getting some seriously moving scene work done, we also added another vital piece to the show: the gas.

Shrek, The Musical is coming to the Woodlawn Theatre in San Antonio. Morgan Clyde plays the part of Fiona and is excited to share a mini-blog with BWW leading up to the opening night.

Nathan Sharp started his career desiring to pursue Top 40 music. Along the way, he took some detours that lead him to create his own YouTube channel, natewantstobattle. As his popularity soared, so did his creativity and originality. His YouTube channel has over 1.1 million subscribers who enjoy his music and creativity. Nathan's newest album is “Sandcastle Kingdoms.” The music is a departure from his usual covers and nods to video games. As Sharp chatted with BWW, he discussed how he ended up creating his own YouTube channel and how his fans have come along for the ride.

Matilda is a beloved story written by Roald Dahl and enjoyed by children all over the world. It's hugely popular story led Dennis Kelly to adapt the story and Tim Minchin to pen the music and lyrics for MATILDA THE MUSICAL. As it first premiered in in UK in 2010, MATILDA THE MUSICAL made its way to the United States and Broadway to debut in 2013. With the huge success in the UK and US, the show went on to tour in the US in 2015. This family-friendly show is making its way across the country and continues to entertain audience members from three to one hundred.

When Nick and Nigel Bottom decided they wanted to write a new hit play, they knew they had a lot of work ahead of them. With William Shakespeare as their competition, they knew they had to be new and innovative. The hilarious show SOMETHING ROTTEN is an original musical comedy with a book by John O'Farrell and Karey Kirkpatrick and music and lyrics by Karey and Wayne Kirkpatrick. It follows their adventures in writing the first musical and the cast of characters that add to the humor of the show. Scott Cote plays Brother Jeremiah and can be called the 'villain' of the show. BWW caught up with Scott as he prepares to come to Austin, Texas with the cast to share this fun show.

CELTIC WOMAN was an idea imagined in Ireland in 2004 that included classically trained Irish female musicians. As the group has enjoyed success all over the world, audiences come again and again to enjoy "…all things Celtic - from bagpipes and bouzouki to Irish dances. But it's also so much more than that. Going to see FINDING NEVERLAND for the first time didn't raise any specific expectations. Having heard a little bit about it over the years, there were a few things to consider. It was the story of J.M. Barrie and how he came to write the famed Peter Pan story many years ago. It was well received by audiences on Broadway but was snubbed by the Tony Awards. But, still going in with an open mind and desire to know what the story was all about, it was pleasantly surprising.

As FINDING NEVERLAND prepares to make a stop in San Antonio, Texas, BWW chatted with Billy Harrigan Tighe who plays J.M. Barrie. Tighe shared with us the inspiration he received in portraying J.M. Barrie and what he continues to learn as he tours with FINDING NEVERLAND.

With PHANTOM OF THE OPERA playing to sold-out audiences all over the world, the current North American tour is no exception. Derrick Davis took over the role of the Phantom last year and spent a lot of time considering his dream role. While playing the famed Phantom, Davis chatted with BWW about his take on the character and what life lessons he's learned along the way.

Dom Kelly grew up around music. As part of the group, A Fragile Tomorrow, Dom along with brothers Sean, Brendan and friend Shaun Rhodes, Dom has travelled all over the world performing and entertaining. From the time he was 11 years old, Dom enjoyed the opportunity to make music with his band. With many challenges and obstacles to overcome early in their lives, A Fragile Tomorrow has been a source of strength for the family. Dom Kelly decided it was time to try to make some music on his own and his first solo album entitled “Everything is Just Enough” will be released on April 7, 2017. BWW caught up with Dom recently as he shared his thoughts and insights on his first album.
