In their acclaimed debut self titled album we heard tenor brothers Pene and Amitai Pati and their baritone cousin Moses Mackay outshine fierce local competition in the likes of Grammy Award winning act Lorde, to win over audiences and become the biggest selling New Zealand act of 2013.
The virtuosos' premiere also charmed Australian audiences debuting in the top 10 on the ARIA Album Chart and spending 6 weeks in the #1 spot on the ARIA Classical/Crossover Chart where it still remains.
A rags to riches story - the three family members started the group initially to fund their training as professional opera singers and along the way accidently became superstars. Pene & Amitai learned their trade singing in rest homes every week for fourteen years; Moses learned his trade by singing for dementia patients. They have now signed a global recording deal with one of the world's most prestigious record labels (Decca) and are taking the world by storm.
Classically trained, with contemporary influences, the trio by their own definition bridge the gap between the two genres.
What began as raw talent has been fine-tuned under the direction of world renowned tenor Dennis O'Neill at the Wales International Academy of Voice, harmonized with a modern inclination and punctuated with quick-witted Samoan humour to craft a breathtaking and entertaining live performance.
"You possess one of the great voices that we have heard in the Southern Hemisphere in years and years and years."
"Sol3 Mio are as good as anything I've ever heard. These are world class voices." - Alan Jones
