World Premiere of Grae Cleugh's SCOTTISH WINDOWS Set for White Bear Theatre, Begin. 6 May

Stolen Elephant Theatre, in Association with the White Bear Theatre, will present the world premiere of Scottish Widows by Olivier Award winning playwright Grae Cleugh.

Scottish Widows is an outrageous new series of monologues about widowhood. Full of fun, seriously dramatic too, this play takes you on a wondrous journey through the lives of four Scots who lose their partners but come out the other end still fighting. Enjoy their strange, marvellous stories of sex, drugs, crown green bowls, heartbreak and a Turkish adventure!

Scottish Widows is written as a series of four monologues set in Scotland and based round the theme of widowhood, this is a work - counter-intuitively perhaps - full of humour, as well as one that explores the heartbreak involved in losing a husband or wife. It is also one of those rare modern plays that examines the lives (including the sex lives) of those elderly women and men who increasingly make up such an important part of our world, dealing as it does with profound issues of love, friendship, families and loss later in life. But while Scottish Widows is a play about death - how could it not be - it is also deeply life-affirming: its stories show us how in the face of sometimes terrible grief we must keep going, moving forward.

Grae Cleugh's first play 'F***ing Games' was produced at the Royal Court Theatre and was directed by Dominic Cooke. It later won the Laurence Olivier Award for the UK's Most Promising Playwright. His second play 'The Patriot' was produced at the Tron Theatre, Glasgow. He recently completed 'Scottish Widows', and is now writing a new play 'High Risk Red'.

Billy Riddoch worked for fifteen years with John McGrath's 7:84. He appeared in London in the National Theatre of Scotland's production 'Enquirer' directed by Vicky Featherstone and John Tiffany. T.V. work includes 'Hammond of Forensics' in 'A Touch of Frost.'

Andrea Miller trained at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama where she won the prize for comedy. Last year she was nominated as Best Actress in the Musical 'The Revenge of Sherlock Holmes' , by the West End Offies.
