When Miss Dolly Parton's involved, sometimes plans change.

Thanks to a bitterly cold evening in Chicago, what was planned to be a one-on-one interview with Dolly Parton quickly shifted into a wave-and-smile as the famed singer/songwriter/actor/entrepreneur (the list goes on) and her entourage swiftly passed through the Bank of America Theatre's lobby.

No interview. No handshake. No hug. No passing off of BroadwayWorld.com's birthday card. But oh what a passing it was.

9 to 5: The Musical's national tour brought out that certain special someone to Wednesday, January 19's performance. Miss Parton, who was celebrating her 65th birthday the very same evening, swung through Chicago moments before the tour's press opening. With Governor Pat Quinn officiating January 19 as Dolly Parton Day in Illinois, the opening night crowd was treated to a few pre- and post-show minutes of by-the-book cuteness only Miss Parton could deliver.

So, sorry to say, the interview did not happen, but here's a package featuring Dolly's arrival, as well as her pre- and post-curtain call speeches. Plus there's Dee Hoty & the touring cast presenting Parton her butterfly-donned birthday cake. And don't forget two enthusiastic rounds of "Happy Birthday, Dolly," because interview or not, how often does one get to sing for Miss Dolly Parton?

9 to 5: The Musical is playing at Bank of America Theatre for a limited two week engagement, Jan. 18 - 30, 2011.  Tickets are available at all Broadway In Chicago Box Offices, the Broadway In Chicago Ticket Kiosk at Water Tower Place, the Broadway In Chicago Ticket Line at (800) 775-2000, all Ticketmaster retail locations, and online at www.BroadwayInChicago.com.
