VIDEO: Lopez Team Reveals Inspiration Behind FROZEN Hit Songs
In a New York Times video interview, Oscar-nominated composers Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez revealed that in some part, inspiration for the songs they wrote for the hit Disney animated film FROZEN came from their hometown of Brooklyn, New York.
"We would sometimes ask Disney for pictures to inspire us," says Robert Lopez, "but in this case it was just taking a walk in our own backyard basically to kind of put a picture in our head."
The Avenue Q composer also explains how the couple's input changed the course of the storyline of the Disney film. "They were still working on Elsa as the villain, and she was really very vindictive against Anna, jealous and Anna was more prim and proper," he explains. "In order to make it a musical, we thought that it should take an optimistic, positive direction so that we could really get behind the characters and believe that they would break out into song."
