Emmy and Golden Globe award winner Kelsey Grammer is taking his final bow as Charles Frohman/Hook in Broadway's FINDING NEVERLAND today, April 3rd. Grammer returned to the role on January 19th of this year after a brief hiatus. AN AMERICAN IN PARIS director/choreographer Christopher Wheeldon was featured on Sunday night's 60 MINUTES, talking about how he's breaking new ground in dance and reinvigorating ballet by making it sensual, athletic and edgy. Wheeldon won a Tony for his choreography for PARIS, which combines musical theater dance with ballet moves. He also directed it - a first for him that caused some jitters. Theatre for a New Audience announces that as part of its 2016-2017 season at Polonsky Shakespeare Center, Golden Globe Award winner Oscar Isaac will play the title role in Hamlet staged by Sam Gold.  Oscar Isaac and Sam Gold last worked together on Zoe Kazan's We Live Here in 2011.Hamlet is their first collaboration on Shakespeare and their first production with Theatre for a New Audience. Hamlet will begin previews on June 4, 2017 for an opening June 22 and run through July 30. 15) STAGE TUBE: On This Day for 4/3/16- SOUTH PACIFIC

Today in 2008, the first Broadway revival of South Pacific opened at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre, where it ran for 996 performances. South Pacific is a musical with music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and book by Hammerstein and Joshua Logan. The musical centers on an American nurse stationed at a U.S. Naval base during World War II who falls in love with an expatriate French plantation owner but struggles to accept his mixed-race children. A second romance concerns a U.S. Lieutenant who falls in love with a young Asian woman. The musical premiered in 1949 and won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1950. (more...)
