Welcome to BroadwayWorld's Tony Award Countdown: 30 Years In 30 Days, a look at some of the Tony Awards' most memorable moments from the past three decades.

Whoever was venturing to downtown's Sullivan Street Theatre in 1994 to see the decades-old Off-Broadway production of THE FANTASTICKS was probably unaware that within ten years the young soprano playing Luisa would be a major Broadway star.

Four years later, Lincoln Center audiences were probably more aware of the star potential of the performer playing the perky waitress who made a one-woman production out of reciting the day's specials in A NEW BRAIN. In between there was a Theatre World Award-winning Broadway debut in STEEL PIER.

The character of Charlie Brown's little sister Sally wasn't in YOU'RE A GOOD MAN CHARLIE BROWN when the musical premiered Off-Broadway in 1967. Instead there was Patty (not to be confused with Peppermint Patty) who served as little more than a side-kick for Lucy.

But in the 1999 Broadway production, Sally was a perfect match for Kristin Chenoweth, especially when her quirky comic persona was showcased in a new Andrew Lippa duet for her and Stanley Wayne Mathis' Schroeder, "My New Philosophy." Scheduled to perform the number just before her category came up, Chenoweth made what might be the quickest costume change in Tony Award history.

The American Theatre Wing's 70th Annual Tony Awards, hosted by Tony Award winner James Corden, will air on the CBS Television Network on Sunday, June 12, 2016 (8:00-11:00 PM, ET/delayed PT) live from the Beacon Theatre in New York City.
