Sunday, August 28th at 7pm, Spectrum proudly presents the album release party for COOL SPRING featuring
David Rothenberg, Bernhard Wöstheinrich & Jay Nicholas on Iapetus Media. COOL SPRING began as improvisation, re-composed in the mixing studio, then performed again in response to the recording. The same and not the same.

Wöstheinrich, Rothenberg, and Nicholas began in the studio in Cold Spring, New York, bringing together their specific and different backgrounds. Rothenberg performs live with birds, whales, and bugs to gain direct inspiration from the natural world. Wöstheinrich comes out of the progressive rock tradition with years of experience creating undulating patterns with sequencers and synthesizers.

Nicholas was a punk bass player and well-known hip hop engineer. You can
hear all these influences going on in the COOL SPRING project.

Spectrum is located at 121 Ludlow Street, 2nd Floor in New York.

PROGRAM:

Cool Spring
Stick Insect Undisguised
It's All in the Cloud
One Leap Takes You There
Dystopia is Cheap

David Rothenberg and Bernhard Wöstheinrich have been playing together for three years, and it happens whenever the two are in the same country. Last October we found them both in the Hudson Valley of New York, where they were joined in the studio by bass player/producer Jay Nicholas in the village where David and Jay live, definitely a Cold Spring.

With clarinet and spaced-out iPad sound-performances, David interacts fancifully in a virtuoso manner with the complex interwoven substructure of Jay's bass and Bernhard's synthesizer parts.

Out of this musical dialogue atmospherically dense real-time compositions and infectious soundscapes emerge in the border state between Jazz, Electronica and rampant Kraut-Rock.
