What do swing dancing, outlaws, love quadrangles and a mischievous dog have in common? It's all part of Shakespeare in Clark Park's 2016 production of The Two Gentlemen of Verona directed by Kathryn MacMillan (Lantern Theater Company) and brings together Philadelphia's finest actors alongside a troupe of community dancers. The Two Gentlemen of Verona is set to run July 27-31, 2016 in Clark Park in West Philadelphia.

Cross-dressing, betrayals, outlaws and love abound in Shakespeare's classic romantic comedy, The Two Gentlemen of Verona. Valentine wants to see the world. His best friend Proteus wants to stay in Verona with his love, Julia. But, when Proteus's father orders him to Milan, loyalties are tested in a whirlwind of missed connections, mistaken identities, and miscommunication.

Kathryn (KC) MacMillan is a Barrymore-nominated Philadelphia-based theater director who has earned a reputation for directing classical and contemporary works with freshness and clarity, tackling plays about big ideas and scientific concepts, and shaping great ensemble acting. She has directed over 25 productions in the Philadelphia area and is currently at work on the development of a world premiere musical. KC's notable productions include the critically acclaimed The Beauty Queen of Leenane (named Best Production of the 2012/13 season & Best Director by Philadelphia Weekly), The Liar (Best Production Honorable Mention that same season), Arcadia (Runner up, Best Overall Production & Best Director by Phindie Independent Critic Awards), Doubt (named one of the Best Plays of 2015 by the Philadelphia Daily News), The Breath of Life (Barrymore Award nomination: Outstanding Overall Production of a Play), The Hothouse (Barrymore nominations for Outstanding Direction & Outstanding Production of a Play), and I Am My Own Wife (Barrymore nominations for Outstanding Direction and Outstanding Production of a Play and winner of the Virginia Brown Martin Philadelphia Award).

For the past two years, Shakespeare in Clark Park has been practicing Radical Community Engagement, which thoughtfully incorporates the community into professional productions. With Henry: Your Prince and Mine, community members battled for the throne of England, and in The Winter's Tale local children helped to tell the story of two broken kingdoms. This year Philadelphia's finest actors will be on-stage alongside a community dance troupe in the comedic tale of love and friendship. For more information please visit shakespeareinclarkpark.org.
