The third year of The Human Race Theatre Company's Stephen Schwartz Musical Theatre Scholarship competition is going to be bewitched, as The Victoria Theatre Association joins in the presentation and members of the touring cast of Wicked take part in the show.

The scholarship finals were moved up to March 1 to coincide with Wicked's visit to The Schuster Center. Daniel Torres of the Wicked cast will emcee the show, and three other cast members will perform. Stephen Schwartz will act as one of the judges, and, for the first time, one of the votes will be determined by the audience.

Seven college students who are either from the Dayton area or attend school in the region will each be singing two show tunes at the finals, one of them by Schwartz, the famed composer of such musicals as Pippen, Godspell, Children of Eden, Snapshots: A Musical Scrapbook (which premiered at The Human Race), and, of course, Wicked. There will be a reception after the show at which guests will be able to meet the finalists, Schwartz and the participating performers from Wicked.

The seven participants are Rachel Jones of Hamilton and Baldwin-Wallace, Andrew Koslow of Springboro and the University of Oklahoma, and five Wright State Musical Theatre Majors - Charity Farrell, Hilary Fingerman, Kelsey Hopkins, Charlie Mann and Alexandra Sunderhaus.

The Schwartz Scholarship finals will begin at 7pm March 1 in the Mathile Theatre in the Schuster Center. Tickets are $20 for the show, and $50 for both the show and the reception, and are available by visiting ticketcenterstage.com or calling (937) 228-3630 or toll-free (888) 228-3630.

The Human Race Theatre Company is the Dayton region's resident professional company. As the name suggests, the company presents universal themes that explore the human condition and startle us all into a renewed awareness of ourselves.
