Schwartz' 'God's Ear' Premieres May 2 Off-Broadway

God's Ear, a full-length play written by Jenny Schwartz (Cause for Alarm) and directed by Anne Kauffman (Soho Rep's The Thugs), will see its world premiere Off Broadway at the East 13th Street Theater, 136 East 13th Street (between 3rd and 4th Avenues). The show will feature songs by Michael Friedman (The Civilian's I Am Nobody's Lunch, Gone Missing) with additional lyrics by Schwartz. Presented by Obie-winning theater company New Georges, performances for God's Ear begin May 2. Opening Night is Monday, May 7, at 7:00PM.

In the press release, New Georges Artistic Director Susan Bernfield comments, "Jenny is part of a generation of playwrights who are pioneering a style of heightened theatrical language, one intent on capturing the idiosyncratic hiccups of real talking." The show, which stars Christina Kirk as Mel and Gibson Frazier as Ted, is described as, "Mel and Ted have lost their young son.  Now, wherever Ted goes, he meets people with dead sons.  And whatever Mel touches falls apart.  Mel and Ted try to continue their way through the world, guided by their young daughter Lanie (Monique Vukovic), and the Tooth Fairy (Judith Greentree) and G.I. Joe (Matthew Montelongo)."

The entire cast for God's Ear includes Christina Kirk (Broadway's Well), Gibson Frazier (The Vineyard's The Internationalist), Judith Greentree (Off Broadway's What Do They Want From Me), Raymond McAnally (Off Broadway's The Charm of Preparedness), Annie McNamara (Cause for Alarm), Matthew Montelongo (The Roundabout's Five Flights at the Rattlestick), and Monique Vukovic (Jean Cocteau Rep's Iphigeneia at Aulis). God's Ear's creative team includes Kris Stone (set design), Olivera Gajic (costume design), Tyler Micoleau (lighting design), and Leah Gelpe (sound design). The production stage manager is Megan Schwarz.

God's Ear runs May 2 through June 2, Wednesdays through Mondays at 8:00PM. Opening Night's curtain time on Monday, May 7 will be at 7:00PM.  Tickets are $25.00, $18.00 for students and seniors.
