FRIDAY, JUNE 13, 2014 marked the opening night for the French premiere of the THÉÂTRE DU CHÂTELET'S new production of THE KING AND I starring SUSAN GRAHAM and LAMBERT WILSON, with Music by RICHARD RODGERS and Book & Lyrics by OSCAR HAMMERSTEIN II. THE KING AND I runs through Sunday, June 29, 2014. Check out highlights of the production below!

It's the 1860s in Siam (now Thailand) when an English widow, Anna Leonowens, and her young son arrive at the Royal Palace in Bangkok, having been summoned by the King to serve as tutor to his many children and wives. The King is largely considered to be a barbarian by those in the West, and he seeks Anna's assistance in changing his image, if not his ways. With both keeping a firm grip on their respective traditions and values, Anna and the King grow to understand and, eventually, respect one another, in a truly unique love story.

Directing this production is Lee Blakeley, the talented director of the Théâtre du Châtelet's Sondheim Cycle; Into the Woods, A Little Night Music, Sweeny Todd, Sunday in the Park with George.

Théâtre du Châtelet presents The King and I along with The Pasdeloup Orchestra bringing precision to this legendary score and recreating the original choreography by Jerome Robbins (West Side Story) is The National Ballet of Cambodia.

A New production in English, subtitled in French. Running time: 3h10 with intermission
