Iconic Broadway legend Patti LuPone is set for a season-long arc on the third edition of FX's anthology series AMERICAN HORROR STORY, this year subtitled COVEN, and the creative mastermind behind the show, Ryan Murphy, teases what we can expect from the dynamic diva on the horror hit in the weeks to come.

LuPone plays Christian conservative Joan Ramsey on the series, which co-stars Jessica Lange and Kathy Bates, among others, a character who appears for the first time on next week's episode as the new neighbor of the witch academy at the center of the new season.

"[T]hat's an episode where there's a great big scene between Patti and Jessica, who are actually friends in real life," Murphy asserts.

"So that's another one of those, Wow, look at these two legends going after each other," he says in reference to the star wattage on set this year.

Murphy continues, "Patti has made a career of these almost operatic creations. Sweeney Todd. Gypsy. Evita. Patti is a great dramatic actress," before adding, "I wanted for Patti to do something where she's very controlled and very not like you've ever seen her before."

Also, Murphy confirms, "Her character continues throughout the season."
