According to Variety, it was announced today at the closing of the New York Film Festival that Robert De Niro will be the 44th recipient of the Chaplin Award, presented by the Film Society of Lincoln Center in honor of a career that has spanned over four decades in film and stage.

The Chaplin Award gala is scheduled for May 8th, 2017, and will feature clips from De Niro's films and interviews with the actor. Other Chaplin Award honorees include Elizabeth Taylor, Meryl Streep, Alfred Hitchcock, and last year's recipient, Morgan Freeman. In addition to his work as an esteemed actor, De Niro founded the Tribeca Film Festival following 9/11, in an attempt to bolster the economic prospects of Manhattan's Lower East Side in the aftermath of the tragedy.

This year, De Niro will make his Broadway directorial debut with A Bronx Tale. Based on the critically acclaimed play that inspired the now classic film, this streetwise musical will take you to the stoops of the Bronx in the 1960s-where a young man is caught between the father he loves and the mob boss he'd love to be. Featuring an original doo-wop score, this is a tale about respect, loyalty, love and above all else: family.

A BRONX TALE THE MUSICAL begins previews Thursday, November 3 and open Thursday, December 1 at the Longacre Theatre (220 West 48th Street).
