Ray Davies' FUNNY AFTERNOON Musical to Debut at Hampstead Theatre, April-May 2014

The Daily Mail writes that a new musical titled FUNNY AFTERNOON will make its debut at The Hampstead Theatre, April 7 - May 22, 2014, directed by Hampstead Artistic Director Ed Hall.

The musical, centered on the story of rock musician Ray Davies and his band The Kinks, features book by Joe Penhall and music and lyrics by Davies himself.

Ray and his brother Dave formed The Kinks in the early '60s and signed a record deal in 1964, putting out the popular single "You Really Got Me". The tune was followed by hits such as "Destroyer", "Come Dancing", "Do It Again". The band dissolved in 1996, but Ray continues to perform solo. The Kinks were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990 and the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2005.

Davies wrote the stage musical Chorus Girls alongside Barrie Keeffe in 1981, which played the Theatre Royal in London and starred Marc Sinden. He also wrote songs for the musical version of Around the World in Eighty Days, with book by Snoo Wilson. The show ran at the La Jolla Playhouse in 1988. His most recent musical, Come Dancing, ran at the Theatre Royal in 2008.
