Solo Theatre Lovers Unite! Starting in October, The Public Theatre, Lewiston/Auburn's Professional Theatre will launch its exciting new PLAY PAL program. The Public Theatre's PLAY PAL program is for people who love to go to the theatre, but often find themselves having no one to go with. Who needs a date when there are other solo theatre-lovers waiting for you at The Public Theatre? The Public Theatre's PLAY PAL program will connect solo theatre-goers with other solo theatre-lovers when they attend a 3pm Saturday matinee performance.

All PLAY PAL members attending the Saturday matinee performance will be seated together and identified to each other making it easy to make a new friend at The Public Theatre. PLAY PALS are also given a coupon for a free concession item, encouraging them to meet and mingle with other theatre-lovers during intermission. A "getting to know you" game card is also available for adventuresome PLAY PAL members, offering a chance to win fun prizes. Membership in The Public Theatre's PLAY PAL program is free with the only requirement being that you are a solo-theatre-goer. Members can choose to see one play or every play in the season, and the shows you attend are up to you. Tickets to any production are $20 each and $5 for anyone 18 years of age and younger.

"We wanted to create a program that would help to connect theatre-lovers as well as encourage people to come to the theatre without a partner" says Co-Artistic Director Janet Mitchko. "We found that many people who love theatre, are not comfortable going by themselves, and we created this program for them. It's also a great way opportunity to meet new people. Who knows, you might find a new friend sitting in the seat right next to you."

The Public Theatre's PLAY PAL program will be available for the Saturday 3pm matinee for the following shows: October 25th for A.R. Gurney's comedy The Cocktail Hour, January 31st for The Tony Award winning comedy Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, March 21st for John Patrick Shanley's recent Broadway hit Outside Mullingar, and May 9th for Neil Simon's classic comedy The Sunshine Boys. The PLAY PAL program will also be offered for the Friday November 7th 7pm performance of Susan Poulin's I Married an Alien!, and the Friday Dec 12th 7pm performance of A Christmas Carol.
